Quit trusting Guy after having shi##y food at three restaurants

I have been to a total of four restaurants that have been on the show. I travel a lot and used to try something from his show in whatever city I was living in at the moment. 3 of the four were absolutely horrible or at best bland. One place screwed up breakfast...BREAKFAST. I can cook breakfast! The eggs were dry and overcooked. The pancakes were awful and the sausage was really greasy. The only place I was not totally disappointed in was the Pecan Lodge in Dallas. Of course because it was on his show I had to wait 1 hour to eat. Let me tell you Texans think they can BBQ....they CANNOT! The food was average, but definitely not worth the wait. So even though I find Guy entertaining i quite believing him eons ago.

Aw, that's disappointing. I have an obnoxious food intolerance so I have to live vicariously through the show, pretending I can eat at these places...and they always look so good! Although, he never outwardly says if he dislikes something. I feel like we can subtly tell when he likes something more than others but, it is hard to read a bit.

Anyway. I like to think these foods are all as amazing as the show makes them seem!

I would try some of the places on the show if there were any close. Some of the stuff looks REALLY good. However, like you said, you can tell when he's impressed and when he's just kinda meh. If he's not that impressed, he tends to talk more about how it was cooked.
He HAS said he didn't like a few things, but they were usually strange or extreme things (like menudo or really hot wings).

He doesn't like eggs either.

Um, I thought that Menudo was a Mexican boy singing group?

I have eaten at 4 of the places in Minnesota featured on DDD and all of them were delicious. I have even eaten at one that will be on an upcoming show owned by a friend of mine and his wife George & the Dragon pub it serves a fusion of American and English food with some Filipino influences. They were recently listed as one of the best in the metro for fish & chips. I highly advise giving them a try if you are in the area. A forewarning though they have some days where they are extremely busy so you may want to call and make a reservation especially if you go after they air the show on DDD.

I'd try a place if Guy ever would come to my state! I think maybe he's been to Connecticut once or twice, but I never seem to catch the eps when they air.

I guess celeb foodies are not fond of the state of CT, they hardly ever show up.
Not even for the pizza!

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Well...actually...you may want to check out this list, from http://www.tvfoodmaps.com/s2/Diners-Drive-Ins-Dives/CT

(It's accurate to date. I've seen all but one of these segments I think.)

Although I've only done so a handful of times, whenever I eat at a place that's featured on a show (usually DD&D, or Man vs Food), I've always went in with my expectations too high. I never hated the food, but I was like "meh..."

reply

It's almost like taste in food is completely subjective and personal...
