Ariane's fish as Etain arrives?

So we see Ariane catching fish and hurling them onto the riverbank as Quintus pees in the river- then he sees that the hunting Picts with Etain are coming, and the two dash to the hut without the flapping fish.

So, as keen and observant as Etain is- or the others sat outside on horseback whilst she suspects and goes inside the hut (not to mention as they approach from that direction near enough) nobody sees the flailing fish nearby, a sign of human panic? Or why Ariane's clothes are wet?

That's sort of what I was thinking too. I think Quintus should have rushed back to the hut to hide, while Ariane should have just stayed in the river acting like her daily routine was catching a fish or two for breakfast.

Maybe the Pict trackers were still far enough down stream that they threw the fish back in and rushed back, but her clothes still would have been wet. Seemed kind of silly to me that the Pict trackers were riding in the river to begin with.

Etain would have noticed a lot of things, but Ariane threw her off by saying "cat got your tongue?" and using Etain's weakness against her.

then again was there any soap in those days ?

arieene could have just disgraced herself in front of Etian on her dress in fright and the flappin fish was something she used as a medicine for makin loins slip better .....

If I had been as cynical and die-hard as Etaine, I would have probably have checked the river anyway, for possible tracks on the banks, or the Romans hiding?

Excellent point, jh66. Well observed.
You served in the Forces by chance?

Thanks, ron, no but my mind analyses the backdrops when watching films!
