I want to hear from the airline cops sometime...

Anybody else want to hear an interview from the side of the airport police? I want to know how easy it is to spot these idiots, how many they have to deal with, all that. I mean, we've heard from the smugglers, lets hear from the coppers who busted them. Or has this been done in an episode and I missed it?

That would make a great new show! NatGeo, are you listening?

reply

second that.
from their perspective, although it'll be a short show since i really dont care to know about their morning before work.

The closest you're gonna get to that, as far as know, is the American show "Border Wars". It's from the point of view of the US customs.

Some episodes are dedicated to drug smugglers (as opposed to illegal immigrants).

In one episode (one of the first in the first series) they say that the main thing that they use to catch the drug smugglers is in trying to notice if the person is nervous. If the person appears nervous they start messing with him/her by asking questions.

Nervousness is the first give away, then they x-ray the vehicle. I guess that system is applied to airport security all over the world.

reply

That would suck for anxious persons like me...

reply

Don't worry. They know the difference between anxious and anxious because you're carrying drugs.

reply

I heard the customs agents look for signs like heavy perspiration and big eyes.

reply

Or rather from the people who informed the airport cops about these small-time smugglers so the next person, while all the cops and dogs are away, walks through the gates 5x more stuff on her/him.

reply

In addition to nervousness and other characteristics, it's the person's look, plain and simple. People who immerse themselves in drug use and drug smuggling develop a certain air, a certain arrogance. They can't change out of it, as they might change their shirt. And getting a shave and a haircut and new clothes doesn't successfully disguise them from the trained, experienced eyes of the interdiction police or customs officers. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. They never learn.
