Respectful to its source but something is off

I don't like it. It makes me really appreciate what Billy Friedkin did with it in the version from 1970. He talks in his autobiography of techniques he would use to open up the film so it wouldn't feel stagey but more cinematic. This 2020 version feels exactly like what it is: a filmed play. There's not a single performance I like better than in the original version. It will be feted though because nobody wants to appear like a homophobe or denigrate the supposedly great actor Jim Parsons.
