very touched, and very impressed.

I saw this film yesterday, knowing nothing more about it than the brief synopsis that "LL" has posted at this very site. But, that synopsis made me think that this might be a film I'd appreciate (you don't really "enjoy" movies like this, that's not an insult, just, to me, movies with real, dark, subject matter are not made to be "enjoyed" but to be appreciated, understood, and FELT).

Acting and production throughout was top notch and felt real, and that is vital in a drama, where if you can't really believe that you are witnessing a slice of life, rather than a movie, you can never really feel for the characters enough to care. No one on either side of the camera let's the viewer down.

And, I am almost hesitant to add, because it might come across in a way I don't intend, being a white guy, one thing that impressed me the most about this movie is that it was not a "black movie." Please, let me explain. It seems most of the movies that I've seen at least, that are made by predominantly black cast and crew are often aimed square at black viewers. They are frequently loaded with black cultural references I cannot relate to, and black jokes I do not find funny. That's in no way a bad thing, but, it prevents me from being able to truly lose myself in the movie. This film never once became a "black" movie. It is a movie about PEOPLE, who just so happened to be black. This is such a well made film, that anyone, of any cultural background, can relate, appreciate, and FEEL it.

Bottom line, if you want to see a film that will make you FEEL, this is the film for you. It's one I will recommend, and a DVD I proudly purchase.
