Question about Danny’s money

I love this film. I first saw it only a year or so ago but it’s now probably my all time favourite film.

So much so that I have no idea how many times I’ve watched it.

But repeat viewings has left me puzzled about one thing… why did it take so long for Danny to pay Fagle the $20 he owed him?

From the beginning where he wanted to pay him back but he got his radio confiscated, right up to the final line of the film where he tried again to pay him back, there were a few occasions where he came into some money. For one, his uncle Arthur gave him some money that he won.

So why didn’t he pay Fagle back with that? Did I miss something?
