Below average movie compared to Korean version - Alive 2020

This and the korean version of the movie are taken from the same script but directed very differently.

The Korean version of this movie - alive 2020 (#Saraitda - original title)

I would rate that one about 7 but this was just about a 4.5 - the best bits of the korean version are just dumbed down/removed from this and none of the cast are even decent in their roles and the leads guy with his tattoo's just didn't suit the role and was too old looking.

The only decent bit about this movie was the vent use, nothing else was even remotely good about it compared to the korean version.

Agreed. This is another case of an American studio seeing a successful film from elsewhere in the world and churning out an inferior copy. Do yourselves a favor, go on Netflix and watch the original Alive. Nothing truly ground breaking but it's well made and does a surprisingly good job capturing the struggle to stay sane in a world gone crazy. The remake seems to be lacking that element of humanity. I found I didn't much care about any of the characters.

LOL. . .this is another case of a random message board poster being hilariously Wrong.

Sorry to add facts & reality to your preconceptions about "American studios," but that's not what happened At All. The script for Alone was written and the script was shopped around. The folks that made #Alive picked it up, and right afterward Hyam & ICM bought it as well. Both companies made their respective versions; the Koreans simply released theirs a few months before the Americans.

But continue bemoaning your imaginary "state of filmmaking woes." It's entertaining, at least.

Nice cap!

Directed differently and they made some tweeks to the script, but they make a big difference.

The Korean lead is sort of a gamer geek and is much more likable than the tattooed LA rocker doofus in this one. This isn't an Americanized remake though. Like Gollard pointed out, South Koreans got rights to the script and then rewrote it. The two versions came out within months of each other.

Kind of interesting. I'm not aware of another time that's happened.
