It's a black comedy...

As the editor on this movie, I feel inclined to say that most people watching this film have been misled.
This was written, directed, and edited as a black comedy. If you enjoy the campy "Slither" then you will understand what I mean. There are quite a few "slasher" elements, but it only goes so far. If you want to be entertained then I feel Brutal does its job. Sit back, relax, and have fun. Don't take it too seriously. If you feel the clues are too obvious it's because they ARE. The sheriff and deputy are incompetent-- and that is what makes it funny. We took the stereotypes of the genre, and put them in the forefront...Think of the film "Scream" but not so slapstick. Don't be afraid to laugh.

The movie definitely has a unique tone....we tried to see what would happen when over the top slasher scenes get mixed in with quirky drama. We tried to make the sheriff and deputy feel as if they were caught up in their own issues and were totally clueless about the murderer. It was funny to us that Jeffrey Combs was always so animated and funny and Sarah was always so stoic and grounded--Once again this movie is supposed to be a comedy--like Scream.

As for the dogs, they are actually real "working" bloodhounds. They fight crime! Michael happened to be a huge dog lover and he absolutely loved those dogs.

I love when people work on a movie come in and say things like this. Yeah I got it, and it was just not a good movie. You are acting like Uwe Boll saying the audience doesn't get it. we do get it, unfortunately.

I understand you get it, I just felt that most people who rent this movie have false expectations...If you know it's supposed to be campy and funny, you might have a different reaction. I'm not arguing that most viewers don't "get" the fact that it's a comedy when they watch it. It's amazing how many people hated Bridge to Terabithia because they were expecting Narnija...

if you have to explain it, it's not funny

You should use teh term dark humor or dark comedy. After all teh term black comedy is being taken by black comedians. Just like latino comedy hr. Alot of people would think of Friday when ya us eteh term black comedy.

Man i tell you what, i loved this movie, it was funny, and not in a crap try hard way like a lot of horror films. Combsy was the man, and if you look at the behind the scenes featurette it looks liek everybody had a blast. By the way, my dogs are the best.

I once got mixed up and asked for Wish Death with Charles Bronson at a
dvd shop, he died that week

As the wife of an editor that has his name attached to several movies that suck so bad he couldn't save them, I feel your pain. But it's just not funny. Or scary. Or anything else that it's supposed to be.

Most people didn't get that "The Frighteners" was a comedy, either, which explained why it didn't do well in the theaters. It was rediscovered on DVD, though, and people who finally gave it a chance found that they DID like it.

I did give this one a chance. It sucks. Sorry, but it does.

Where's the slapstick in Scream?

Hey, this guy's not gonna leak all over my ice cream, is he?

I don't see what the "comedy" in this was, or it was so poorly exploited it did not register. The fact that you were made to think that the victims sort of "hd it coming" was unpleasant. If the characters were SUPPOSED TO be incompetent, why not show their ineptitude in motion, in ways that could have been fun or pathetic ? There WAS some ideas and potential — every scene with Michael Berryman in it — which is even more frustrating, because ideas don't cost money. But no way Jose. Oh, and I saw "The Frighteners" when it first came out and thought it was the perfect blend between horror, comedy and a good screenplay with unexpected twist. Not here, with just one scene following the other until the 90mn mark. Sory !

SOry! DUR>......

You are actually comparing a big budget POS film helmed by PETER *beep* JACKSON with this direct to video flick? Try and use your *beep* head before posting.

Also, I found this flick to have the "perfect blend between horror, comedy and a good screenplay." Not that piece of utter *beep* known as "The Frighteners." ,

Funny how opinions differ, ain't it?
