Yet another movie that ends with no ending

Is it now trendy to abruptly end a movie without a proper ending?

Without spoiling anything, that final scene didn't wrap up anything and then credits started to roll... THE END.

We've seen several new movie releases like this lately. "Steve Jobs" is another movie that ends abruptly without a proper ending. It's almost like saying "I can't come up with a good ending. The movie is getting kinda long. Let's just roll credits."

Steve Jobs he's dead --- spoiler alert

treating cancer with alternative medicine is like getting pediatric advice from Jenny McCarthy

Alternative means something different --- Alternative medicine = not really medicine

davedave11: Stop being such a moron! Alternative medicine works for MANY conditions, often when Big Pharma medicine fails. Just because the alternative treatments Steve Jobs chose to use for this form of cancer failed, does NOT mean that alternative medicine always fails. TENS OF THOUSANDS of people follow the advice of so-called "medical doctors" when combatting cancer and use chemo drugs, surgery, and radiation and ALSO DIE.No approach has a 100% success rate. Had Steve Jobs followed the medical doctor's approach and still died from the cancer, would you say that Big Pharma medicine is a croc?

I know several people who had diseases and did exactly what their medical doctor told them and they still died...often of conditions that could have been reversed with proper nutrition and supplements. Big Pharma medicine often does more harm than good. Millions of people have tried following their doctor's advice when dealing with arthritis, heart disease, and numerous other ailments and got no relief whatsoever. Then they tried natural supplements and COMPLETELY HEALED THEMSELVES, and without the prohibitive expense of price-gouging drug companies and the devasting long-term toxic side effects of the "FDA approved" pharmaceutical drugs.

Don't be such a gullible fanboy for Big Pharma medicine. Get a brain.

I saw this movie and it had NOTHING to do with medicine, alternative or otherwise.

No, and stop name calling just because you are gullible.

Alternative medicine just means either medicine that has not been tested, or that has been tested and has not been shown to work, or has been shown not to work. Otherwise, it is medicine.

This is not discrimination. It's just how science works; you have to test stuff rigorously to ensure it works before you can make profound claims for it. Human beings are crap at telling randomness from real patterns, and placebos from real medicinal effect. We are all prone to huge numbers of cognitive biases and spurious reasoning. You have to follow scientific protocols because they are specifically designed to combat those issues - that is why science exists, why it differs from other ways of knowing, and why it is actually successful.

So alternative medicine is either untested, or has failed the test. These tests also include finding the right dose, and looking for harmful side effects. In the case of, say, medicine derived from herbs, this also means refining the product so that it does not contain all kinds of additional junk that has nothing to do with the actual medicinal qualities, and possibly find substances that are equally or more effective but have fewer side effects than the naturally occurring substance.

So altmed proponents who are fearful of science-based medicine because it is "full of chemicals" or unnatural have it exactly backwards. You should, if anything, fear nature. Nature is an indifferent, relentless, murderous thing that does not care about your health at all.

Also, re: supplements, they are created by the same drug companies that altmed proponents like to chastise for being a greedy, uncaring industry. That much they get right, but ironically, it's the supplements and alternative medications that "big pharma" makes that should infuriate them. I recommend Ben Goldacre's book "Bad Science" for more details on the how and why.

reply

Thanks for the science there, Mr. Wizard, but remind me again. What exactly does this have to do with Our Brand Is Crisis (2015)?

reply

Nothing, I was obviously responding to a post on altmed. I was unaware that I had to justify it's contents to you, but I see now that you are of course in charge of such things. Won't happen again.

reply

How is that obvious? This ENTIRE WEB SITE is about the entertainment industry and NOT quack medical ideas.

No you don't have to justify anything BUT it is considered to be in poor taste, some may even say rude, to attempt to take over conversations with inappropriate and spammy posts such as yours.

I just felt it necessary, as a good internet citizen, to try to bring things back on topic.

reply

How is that obvious?
Well, for one thing, it's a reply to a post containing an anecdote in defense of altmed... I don't know how much more obvious it could be than that, really.

I'm not the one who brought up alternative medicine. I'm just responding to a post containing potentially harmful medical misinformation. And I don't care what you feel is or is not appropriate internet decorum. Actually, given your (selective) sensitivity to this kind of thing (i.e.: side discussions emerging from a thread), I have to question whether you've been to any internet forum ever?

reply

“No approach has a 100% success rate.”

You obviously haven’t seen ‘I Am Legend’.

reply

This movie does not have a proper ending.

reply

But is it a happy ending?

reply

Steve Jobs 2015 ended great, in my opinion. I kind of agree with you on the Our Brand Is Crisis one, but similar to the low note ending of the original documentary, I wasn't expecting a fully wrapped ending, anyway.

reply

I've not seen the "original documentary". Please tell me more about it,

reply

Both films have rather definitive endings. I don't know what you are talking about.

reply

Seemed like a proper ending to me are you sure you were awake?

reply

Yes, we are sure. And I say "we" as in everyone in the theatre. Everyone in the theatre was going "that's how it ends?!?"

reply

Maybe there was a gas leak in the theatre and you were all disoriented. The president immediately brings in the IMF to screw over the poor people. She feels bad about what she did so she becomes an activist to fight for the people redemption the end

reply

Thanks, hammerbutt.

I too was left wondering what happened to the ending. I knew it was summed up in a couple of sentences that I missed (I'm hard of hearing). It just seemed like the election ended, they had won, they whispered to each other, everyone was sad and pissed off, army attacks for no reason, end of movie.

I was left feeling that the writers made their 500 page script quota and then just tacked on the ending to be done with it. I would have liked the movie better if they ended it 10 minutes sooner with the guy just winning the election. I do realize that this downbeat ending may have happened in real life, but it just made my movie going experience of the film sub-par.

They had to show that he was really a bad guy and everything she did was to get the wrong man elected. Him just winning would leave you without knowing what he would do as president. He immediately went back on his promise not to bring the IMF without referendum. This caused mass protests which lead to bringing the military out. Jane sees and realizes that all her campaigning does actually effect things and that it really did matter and the wrong guy probably won.

reply

The ending was just fine.

reply

How do we know the wrong man was elected. What if there was no right man?

reply

I knew nothing of the actual history. The movie that I really wanted to see was sold out so I saw this. My views were based on merely the entertainment value I got. I looked on it as a kind of sports movie, in that, once the home team wins the play-offs, the story is basically over. Yes, there may have been important history to follow but that would be for another movie, another time.

You must have missed the "interview" she was doing, that was obviously some time after the story, where she was named as a Latin America Activist. It was right after she saw the boys in the crowd. Very clear to me, and a definite finale.

If we all liked the same movie, there would only be one movie!

reply

Maybe it just didn't end as soon as you'd have liked.

It's supposed to make you think, although almost nothing in this movie makes you want to think about it up until this point so why start now. What a disappointment this was.
