I read spoilers already as I'm only half hour in.
They saw the bad guy in court, they didn't recognize him???
I don't understand how they hurt the wrong guy without noticing?

Apparently the 2 men resembled each other.

I know that I am stupid but when I look around me I feel a lot better.

They didn't know there were two men in the van. After the van crashed the guy they took was badly injured in the face and he looked enough like the real guy because of that.
