She's awesome! Kudos to her and wow Joan and the Who? That's got to be a hard ticket to get.

That Jett is now in the R'n'R Hall of Fame is an abomination before the gods. I can smell the stench from here.

You are entitled to your opinions, of course, but when you look at some of the people already there and those NOT there or the ones who had to wait, you have to admit that JJ was part of the origin of the genre and clearly deserves a place if for nothing else that she is a "she" in a mostly male sport.

I could go on and on about how so-called "rap musicians" are inducted; if you think that hot mess genre is "RnR music" then we have no basis for discussion at all.

I am not being prejudiced; the white "rappers" are as bad as any other ones. This is simply not music--oh, wait, there was Elvis doing the 1926 (!!!) song "Are You Lonesome Tonight" in '69 so I guess this was the first "rap" song of RnR era?

JJ is a RnR artist, period, and she does belong in the Hall. Explain why Duane Eddy was not in the first group inducted--Ramrod and Rebel Rouser were in '58 and set the guitar sound for almost all players after that, yet he did not make it until '94. I will give a pass on Johnny Cash due to a couple of his "crossover" hits, but really? The king of country music in the RnR Hall?? Get real.

Martha and the Vandellas waiting until '95 when they started in '62??? Gene Pitney until 2002??? Are you kidding me? If you were around then, that is a travesty of the largest proportion. And finally, the Ronettes in 2007?? Be My Baby is considered by SOME to be the best song ever recorded--1963--and the Rolling Stones were their opening act. Explain that one.

I know you were there for all of RnR history--I was, too, and we simply disagree on what was music and what was not. That I played in bands starting in 1961 and continuing to this day has nothing to do with it; I am not a "master musician" by any means, but I can tell you that JJ is clearly a great performer and trail blazer in the business. Her influence on the Runaways I leave to you; I was not there and you were and your point about her breaking up the band may be true based on your review of the live performances. I can tell you from over 55 years' of experience that ALL bands fight, ALL bands dislike each other at one time or another, and all bands break up eventually. Remember the line from "That Thing You Do" for confirmation if you don't believe me.

Rock and Roll used to be "owned" and "controlled" by essentially straight, heterosexual males. There were always women there, but they were "invited guests" to the party. Then, Bowie and Elton came big to that party and the music and appearance of Rock began to subtly change. And women wanted to join in a much bigger way than ever before. The 20th Century has been described as the "Century of the Woman." Strong, powerful women just "Elvis-ed" their way in and fought for their rightful place at the party. No more greasers, no more Punks, no more Metal, no more Grunge - - just women. Michael and Prince helped to undermine Rock's solid underpinnings without our even realizing it. They were "thieves in the night", softening us up for the kill.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you THE WORLD OF POP!!! Madonna started it off, followed by the Spice Girls, then the UNIVERSE OF BRITNEY!!! Gotta have dancers and lights and big production. (And then, why did she shave her head? Oh no! She must be crazy!!! Buzz, buzz, buzz! Social media is queen!) And the poor ol' guys were reduced to "boy bands", vocal groups of male wussies. And now, finally, women control EVERYTHING!. The only "guys" left are One Direction and a few superfluous ones doing non-essential hash, like John Meyer. I guess Joan Jett DOES look pretty good in contrast to all the Pop engulfing us and choking off our ability to breathe clean air. Miley and Taylor and Katy and Ariana and Nikki and Gaga and, yes, even the old war horse, JLo, control our very lives. Clevvertv.com is your new bible. Better not miss a single sermon if you're smart.

Joan Jett's popularity is a function of Rock's transition from "real" Rock and Roll to today's musical jello. There she stands, all in black, with her all-male Blackhearts blasting out what sounds for all the world like what we remember as "real" Rock and Roll. A "real" keeper of the faith! Someone to give us hope that not all is lost. But, nuh uh, not so fast. No matter what, she's still a cover artist, a mediocre rhythm guitarist, and a poser of monstrous proportions. A creation of Kenny Laguna who couldn't have made a move without him. She doesn't have me fooled. She has no business in the Hall of Fame. If she'd come in as a member of The Runaways, then I could see it, but not alone as if she was truly important. In my opinion, she's a really bad, inside joke. And what's more, Britney did a better job on "I Love Rock and Roll." (Oh, the shame!) Joan is propped up by a coalition of powerful, impressionable, badly-informed Rock functionaries and a Nation of Rocker Grrrrrls who wish they could be life-long Rock and Roll lesbians just like their hero, Joan Jett. Please, gimme a break. If you gave me a free ticket to a Joan Jett show, a front row seat, and a ride there in a limo, I'd rather stay home, slug a beer, and watch The Antiques Roadshow on TV.

You sure do put a lot of effort over the last 5 years into trashing someone that you claim not to care about.

It was no effort at all. If anything, a labor of love. You see, I do care about her, but I care MORE about the integrity of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Joan Jett is the rotten apple that ruins an otherwise magnificent barrel. As far as I'm personally concerned, the R&RHOF is now a sad joke. I have no respect for it whatsoever and would never visit there again. Burn it down and start over, while exposing the unqualified voting members who allowed this mediocre performer to be enshrined there in the first place.

I have no problem with women as rock artists. Sadly, producers and management control the show now (well, far more than before). Thus, music without passion or heart. Which should be the foundation of rock n roll.

Should be the foundation of all artistic endeavors.

Thanks for the thread I wouldn't have known had I not returned to one of my favorite 'haunts' from when this indie film was at Sundance (2010)

With IMDB closing the discussion threads I came to say goodbye
I reflect fondly on this board and some cool people like you Flex & CarvedKid, had a great time chatting it up about this film, Joan, Cherie, TR, Los Angeles in the time of the band, Floria and visual storytelling etc
IMDB deleted all those threads, so it was inevitable I guess it'd all go away
