Lu Pi

Why hasn't Lu Pi been prosecuted yet? Yea, he left before the *beep* hit the fan but he was still a major part of Enron's deceit and corruption.

reply

Too right. That Asian guy was creepy as hell, and up to his neck during the boom years in Enron's games. That he could get away with BILLIONS before TSHTF, become the second largest land owner in Colorado as well as large chunks of real estate in Hawaii is disgusting and makes my blood boil.

Anyone know why this creep seems teflon coated?

From what I read on Wikipedia [take what you want from it] He had to pay back 35 million. 30 million was to the fund for those employees who lost their retirement and the other 5 million was for federal fines. How he stayed out of prison is beyond me. His butt belongs their with Skilling and the CFO!

reply

He had plausible deniability. He wasn't associated with Fastow's raptors; he left before the rolling blackouts; and his divorce gave him legitimate reason to cash out early. He had to pay his ex-wife her settlement.

He could reasonably claim innocence from the shenanigans.

reply

250 mil i think. that's a lotta cash! he had a sneaky 2 door black benz. those people you should always keep a lookout for.

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

There will never truly be justice for the things that have (and continue to happen today) from the certain (not all) authority to abuse and to do as they will to the common man.

Great movie, but really sad that there wasn't and can never be under modern circumstances a happy ending or true justice. Also, of course, themes can obviously run through to modern times, as smaller (yes, smaller) more visible cases (like Enron) paved the way already. People can learn from Enron in two different ways.

"Who do you think you are, Bill Clinton? You're a comptroller!"

reply

Was wondering about that too. Dude is banging strippers with the money he stole from hardworking people that lost it all. He should be in a cell getting his salad tossed.

reply

Um, i think you got it wrong. he should be the one tossing the salad. yes, facts do matter. lol.

There's always the one that gets away... He was probably the "smartest' guy in the "room"... He may have predicted that it was about to get a little too illegal and bailed. Things were probably borderline prosecutable when he was there. He may have know just what kind of guy Fastow was.

I agree with all of you and it enrages me that that giant d-bag is out there. But if you think about it, he's probably going through life always looking over his shoulder and sleeping with one eye open. I mean if we are enraged and never even worked for Enron, imagine the guy who spent his whole life at PGC and then got his shares transferred to Enron stock and lost it all. Lu Pi aint safe I would imagine.

He may well have actually been the smartest guy there, at least in the sense that he appeared to recognise it wouldn't go on for ever.

From many of the comments about him in the film, his heart wasn't really in it anyway. If you could cash in for a quarter of a billion dollars and go play in the sun with topless women, wouldn't you do it?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

That pretty much sums it up... He's almost my hero! :D

he abandoned the ship like rats, but in this case way before the ship actually sank, taking a look at all the events retrospectively he was indeed the smartest guy in the room, got away with substantial amount of money and found his way out of the judicial system, his and his coworkers gambled the flesh and bones of hard working men and women, there used to be a time when great souls like Dr. Jonas Salk just gave away the valuable vaccine for nothing.. and these scoundrels would put a derivatives on the souls of your child if they had a chance.. shame on them..

To be fair , Lu Pi was only a CEO of a division ,That division makes a lot of money when he was running it ,and make some of the biggest loss after he left.

He left at the time when the Bush presidential campaign was still happy to take donation money from Enron.

There were no evidence linking him to the fraud , but taking the fifth Amendment does make him look a bit guilty.

He is guilty of being
-Chinese
-Creepy
-unfaithful to his former wife
-using company expense for stripper
-transfer a guy to Canada for making a joke on him
-inside trading ( selling the stock when he knew the company is going down )
-He married his hot Stripper Girlfriend

And i read an article about he sold his land in Colorado ,and got a few times more than the money than the price he paid.
That's more than makes up for the SEC fine .
The rich just get richer .

Update on Lu Pi: He lives in Middleburg, Virginia now. I know that because I live in Fredericksburg. He's among his own kind - the thieves otherwise known as lobbyists that also live at that prestigous address.

Want to know something else that will make you mad? He's buying up distressed properties in the area - foreclosures - and becoming one of Northern Virginia's biggest landlords. That's the future we can look forward to - writing a check to this guy or someone like him for rent the rest of our lives rather than owning our own home.

My stepdaughter's real estate agent has a big mouth, and she actually mentioned him as someone who was one of her "biggest clients" as she goes on and on about making so much money being his agent. The agent apparently doesn't mind soiling herself with this scumbag's dirty money. Uggh.

And you can even see his house here: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/36987-Mountville-Rd-Middleburg-VA-20117/82381324_zpid/

LMAO ckwong lol guilty of being chinese that comment made my day that was funny

Seems Lu Pi WAS the smartest guy in the room. He bailed at just the right time.

reply

I actually believe that he planned to get caught with the stripper girlfriend.

1. He could then get divorced and marry the hot stripper

2. He could sell shares without doing insider trading

I love this guy, he is a stealthy little asian. They ARE good with numbers.

reply

Well, he was actually forced to sell his stocks and leave the company. His penchant for strippers, wanton spending of company funds, and a messy divorce, would've brought more skeptical eyes at Enron's shady business. Lou Pai was a lucky fool, nothing more.
