Sandy Dennis's son?

Any definitive word on if Dennis is her son or not?

(great doc btw!)

reply

His name is Christopher, not Dennis.
And yes, he is the son of Sandy Dennis.

reply

No, actually he's not...

A few years ago USA Today did an article on Christopher Dennis, inwhich he claimed to be the son of Sandy Dennis, but many readers wrote in telling them that Sandy Dennis never had any children.

USA Today contacted Christopher, and asked him to provide some proof (ANY proof) of his claim- such as a photo of Christopher with Sandy Dennis.... After 2 months of Christopher giving them the run around, USA Today had to print a retraction.

reply

Thank you for posting this....I was actually the reader who contacted USA today and pointed out that he was a fraud in saying he was Ms Dennis's son. After several requests for ANY type of proof from him, USA Today printed a retraction, or rather a correction, stating that he 'states' he is her son, but could not provide proof when asked. The writer of the story emailed me several times letting me know what was happening in his 'quest' for the truth, and am glad that the film showed that his family did not believe he was her son.

How DARE he take state he is her son and even attempt to tarnish this great actresses reputation. It makes me sick to be honest with you....

No, no..."cruelty." I always think that has a nobler ring to it.

reply

I wouldn't say "how dare he" just because he did state he is a recovered meth accict, lord only knows what kind of past he has hidden behind the face, he probably invented that to deal with some kind of trauma, and has just believed it a truth because its been his story for so long, or perhaps his mind has confused the truth with reality to block out those painful memories, whatever they may be.

that kind of stuff does happen. I mean it is obvious, though kind hearted as he seems, that the man is disturbed.

reply

He could be an illegitimate child of Sandy Dennis. He definitely looks like he could be, as there is a strong resemblance. When I saw the Out of Towners with her and Jack Lemmon a few days after seeing this doc, it seemed very plausible, by looks alone, that they could be mother and son.

Yeah good thing upstanding people like you are around to dispel the delusions of mentally ill people and sever from them what little makes them happy. You're a real hero.

Typical mainstream media laziness...

USA Today did not even vet a claim like that before they ran the story???

Sheesh!

Even her relitives in the film said she had ho children, and you could tell it was her relitives the niece look just like her. this superman dude shows no resemblence at all, he just must have made it up to use it in interviews to try and get acting jobs.

I seriously doubt that he is the son of Sandy Dennis. She lived with musician Gerry Mulligan for over 20 years. If she had a child, it would have been noted somewhere. She was quite popular in the 1960s.

Well for what it is worth, she always gave me the creeps and so did he.

However...

The fact that her real family members never heard of him, added to the fact he is completely delusional, makes me think he is...well..."Living in a Fantasy World"!
The others featured really seemed to be doing it more to break into the biz, whereas it seemed to me "Superman" had crossed into another dimension altogether.

What a great movie & what a strange country we live in.

Memorabilia such as his has been known to fetch a pretty penny. I'm not into it myself but I do know that unopened boxes with their original action figures could put several children through college.
Remember in The 40 Year Old Virgin the main character sold his memorabilia and was able to afford oh...I think it was to help his girlfriend buy her store or something. I can't exactly recall. Sorry. Still, the sale gave them enough money to do what they wanted.

Yep.

I have seen lots of no more than five action figures total (not in their original boxes) from the 80's sell for $200.00 on up.

I have seen certain dolls and games from the 70's go for at least that much each.

I don't know about his collection being worth 1 mil as I don't know everything he has (for example, original movie props can sell for thousands of dollars), but shouldn't be too fast to label his collection entirely as 'junk'.
