Borderline Painful to Watch
I finally got around to seeing this recently on DVD, and I'm not sure how I felt after watching it.
There were parts of it that I laughed at, but then I felt a little guilty because it's really quite sad, the lives that these people are leading.
I don't even know where to start with Superman. First of all, the tons of money that he has spent on the novelty items that he's purchased would have gotten him some decent dental work that would improve his appearance. He bears some faint resemblance to Christopher Reeve at times, but he really must do something with his teeth (and his armpit sweat) if he wants to be taken seriously. Then there's the needless lying about his relationship to Sandy Dennis that has since been proven as false. I felt a little sorry for him at the lookalike contest, but then that was taken away when I saw how idiotic he made himself look with Margot Kidder and John Schneider (on the extras when he meets Bo Duke...Superman comes across as a total moron, fawning over him).
Batman needs to be clued in that he does not look as much like George Clooney as he and his disabled wife thinks he does. And the dreams and fantasies of his life in the mafia or whatever are simply delusional.
The Hulk. Wow. I think I was most embarrassed for him. Those teeth, oh my. And what importance does he hold, being completely covered by a costume and thinking he is "acting"? His visit to where he used to sleep homeless...he acts like he is visiting something of long ago, and he has since "made it"....to a mattress on an unfurnished apartment.
The only one who comes out of this unscathed is Wonder Woman. The only one of the bunch that may stand a chance at something coming along for her. She's from a small southern TN town and is the only one of all of them who doesn't come across as some kind of trailer trash. I hope she makes it....I would like to see things really happen for her.
The rest of the bunch, I don't wish ill will on, but they are really hoping against hope if they think anything is going to come for them. I applaud anyone who pursues a dream, but at some point some of these people (Superman) need to realize that if it hasn't happened yet, it's not going to.
As a sideline, if I knew someone was going to be coming in to my home and doing a documentary on me, I would clean the house before they got there. Wipe the spattered toothpaste off of the mirror in the bathroom at least. Pick up the dirty clothes off the floor, make the bed, etc...but that's just me.
