Is anyone excited about an Echo show?

The actress seemed OK in this episode. But a whole season about her? The fact that she doesn't speak is going to be a huge problem too I think. She would have to be exceptionally good at emoting with her face, but she looked kind of blank in this episode, except for looking angry a lot. Does anyone want to spend a whole season reading subtitles?
The character ticks a lot of boxes, native American female, deaf, missing a limb. But does that mean anyone will want to watch her?

reply

I feel good about her. She has a decent back story, her fights are good, they at least got a girl looks like capable of putting up a decent fight. It could even be another Florence Pugh in the making.

Of course that does not mean her story is enough to fill a TV series. That we will have to see, which I have no problem of watching from what I've seen so far. Her story is going to be inevitably linked to Kingpin, that is another plus.

reply

From what I have heard, they are going to use the series to reintroduce the Netflix characters, like Daredevil and Fisk and maybe some of the other supporting cast. But then why call it an Echo show? Just to tick a box?

reply

Heroes and villains. So I guess Echo would be the hero? Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin was just glorious, I hope it is him once again. I hope whoever associated with Kingpin in Daredevil does the same magic once more.

reply

No because i don't even know who this Echo is , but i would be excited if they made a Spider-Man or Hulk TV Show.

reply

Isn't Spider-Man done to death?

Also all Hulk ever does is smashing things once transformed, not sure that makes interesting stories. She hulk at least is not that affected when she transforms, so she is just a regular superhero that has a stronger hulk form.

reply

Um. Did you see Endgame? You could not be more wrong about Hulk.

Even before his evolution in that movie, the phrase "all he ever does is smashing things" is still wildly incorrect. There are SIXTY YEARS of stories to pull from; how on earth do you imagine that's possible if what you say is true?

reply

I think Endgame breaks many settings and it is a real mess. Frankly I don't like it on many levels. I think Hulk was only like that in it because it was convenient.

reply

Again, you're Exactly Wrong. I realize this is the interwebs, and people don't care about accuracy, but man alive does it get tiresome sometimes.

Short version: the "smart Hulk" storyline is lifted from the comics. So, no: he was NOT "only like that in it to be convenient."

As far as not liking the movie. . .your opinion carries as much weight as anyone else's. But to call it a "real mess" is factually incorrect.

All of which is besides the correction I was pointing out: the character has a *rich* history of stories which can be usefully mined. Far from "only smashing things."

Someone is clearly full of himself. Do you even know what "factually" means?

reply

Yes. Not surprised you don't.

Lifting something from the comics doesn't mean that it wasn't done out of convenience.

reply

By *definition* it means exactly that. If you don't understand that, can't help you.

reply

It's disappointing that you are so dismissive of others when you're the one who's apparently lacking in articulation and comprehension.

reply

Oh, I'm not dismissive of You. Just your attempts at logic. I'm sure you're a perfectly lovely person.

reply

Both me and the other fellow pointed out something to you. You didn't have to agree, nor did you have to respond. Yet you responded, without engaging. That's dismissal.

Again, it's fine if you want to be illogical. But it's silly to be dismissive and condescending when you literally don't have a grasp of what "convenience" means, or what "factually" means, apparently.

reply

"Both me and the other fellow pointed out something to you. You didn't have to agree, nor did you have to respond."

You're confused. This conversation started w/me correcting someone w/basic facts; of course, since this is MovieChat, instead of accepting the mistake. . .we got this entire discussion.
And while it's cute that you feel validated because someone else is walking arm-in-arm with you as you splash through your puddles of confusion, let me assure you: you're confused.

Finally: my grasp of vocabulary and related concepts is just fine, thank you. Rather than repeat myself, I'll just gently direct you to re-read previous messages. Good luck to you.

No , the last live action tv show that i remember was in 1977 , so you are wrong

reply

Nope. The character in the comics was great. Daredevil even spent some time in a relationship w her for awhile.

The character in the show? meh. I'm unimpressed with the actress and they had to give her the missing leg because she wasn't handicapped enough.

COMIC STORY SPOILER
In the comic book, Ronin shows up for awhile in the Avengers and turns out to be Echo. She has copy cat abilities similar to Taskmaster so she tricks people into thinking that she is Hawkeye by her fighting style. Never mind that no one seems able to tell when a women is in a costume (even in the tv show). Oh and she is deaf in the comic but has both legs.

reply

She has a missing leg because the actress has a missing leg.

reply

Great. What an inspirational casting! Think of all the people who will be inspired by this.

reply

The thing is, they have actually ruined the chance of a deaf character being a star of the MCU by casting a deaf actress instead of the best actress. I mean, she is OK, but look at her compared to Hallee Steinfeld or Florence Pugh. Not in the same league.

Imagine if blind actor had been cast as Daredevil...

reply

True. I liked Echo in the comics. Not so much in the show. As you said, she sticks out among the cast.

reply

She's doing a great job, she's charismatic and badass, an an interesting person you want to know more about!

But you're right that the fact that she doesn't speak means a problem with the series, particularly as TV is a medium where people are always taking their eyes off the screen to fiddle with phones or talk to each other or stop the dog from doing whatever he's doing, so it can't be all subtitles and ASL. So the logical thing to do is pair her with someone else, a funny sidekick or a talkative superhero who can fill the silences. Kate seems chatty enough, but as I'm shipping her with Yelena, I don't really want to see a Kate/Echo series.
