Best MCU show so far.

So far it has hit on all axes:

The cast is great, the pacing is by far the best of all of the MCU shows so far, the writing is smart, the comedy works perfectly, the action is better than any of the MCU movies this year. It doesn't have the gimmicks of Wandavision or Loki, but I prefer good writing to gimmicks personally. This is also the first show where the title character is done justice. Clint get's his personal life fleshed out fully, and we get to see all of his skills and gadgets more than we have seen in the movies.

But that is not a high bar to clear.

K

reply

I just don't think that his story is compelling. I mean, no offense but the dude shoots arrows.

reply

Yes, also he is not very interesting. He is just a SHIELD agent/assassin following orders, black widow at least had an interesting back story, he is just an above average faceless government agent.

Even in his own show he still does not have a back story, that is how boring his life was.

reply

You are right. Which is why they were smart to make Kate the center of the story. Have you even watched the series?

reply

I've watched the first episode. I am glad that you enjoy it. Naming it Hawkeye and not even having him play the main role is somehow worse to me. It's so rare to find a show that you really like anymore and you've found one that ticks all the boxes for you, that's awesome.

reply

Ummmm ... it's called Hawkeye because 1. Hawkeye is one of the main characters, and 2. It is about her becoming Hawkeye.

reply

This complaint has never made sense. I mean, James Bond shoots guns.

See how that works? SMH

reply

I just love marksman characters in general. Why does everyone hate the arrows lmao?

reply

I totally agree. It also seems to have captured the tone of the comic it was based on better than any other marvel show too.

reply

It kind of annoys me when I watch Youtubers who think that Loki was great putting down this series. Loki had stupid writiing, characters acting out of character, and every episode lurched in a completely different direction without any regard for what happened previously. It showed no respect for Loki's character or things that happened in the MCU previously(the infinity stones are lying around in an office drawer, everything that happened in the MCU was arranged by the TVA). But it had a crocodile Loki and Richard E. Grant in a pantomime costume.

Hawkeye on the other hand has great writing, each episode works on it's own, but when you go back and rewatch them after watching the later episodes they actually get better. On the other hand the early episodes of Loki and Wandavision were made pointless by the later episodes.
The MCU was great not just because it had fun sparkly things(I like them too) but because it had great writing and acting. Seems like People only care about the sparkly toys now.

reply

Your description of Loki is why I'm loath to watch it. All I know are the memes and stuff but it all just sounds like a joke. And I'm not even a big Loki fan either so it's like, what do I have to gain here.

reply

Loki is written by a different person each episode. This makes it very uneven. You'd think that the writers would talk to each other or actually CARE about what they are doing. I did enjoy it though. About half of the episodes are great. It does have a bunch of problems as per MCU continuity (and even continuity within the show).

You should watch it. It is short and worth the bad shit for the good parts.

reply

Yup. Best of the Disney MCU tv shows. Inagree with you.

reply

I like it a lot so far, but I'm still going to put "WandaVision" and "Loki" ahead of it.

This is a fun show, with lots of action (including a really great chase scene), well-drawn characters, good writing, good acting, and good old-fashioned ass-kicking fun. But "WandaVision" and "Loki" had more imagination and weirdness and totally bizarre situations, while "Hawkeye" is very much set in the real world. I like loopy weirdness, so OF COURSE I'd have to put the series where Loki can be an alligator at #1! Which is just my preference, I bet the people who prefer their superheroes in something resembling their realities love this show.

reply

No, I prefer fantasy to grounded. But I prefer well written grounded to badly written fantasy.

reply

I like this show a lot but Daredevil is the best followed by The Punisher

reply

I agree with the order but those are Netflix shows, I think OP is referring to the TV series since marvel taken over, namely Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and of course this one.

reply

The Netflix shows are canon and in the same universe of the Disney+ shows , hence Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Spider-Man NWH and She-Hulk Disney+ show and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin in Hawkeye

reply

We only knew that recently. I don't think OP was certain of that when posting this. But in any case that is bring in Netflix shows into MCU, they are not MCU shows.

reply

I am only counting Disney+ shows as MCU shows at this point. Until the Netflix shows are canonized, they don't really count. It's difficult to compare them to the Disney+ shows, as the format is so different. The Netflix shows are longer and have some really boring episodes, and some really good ones. In the case of Daredevil, you are comparing a three 13 episode seasons with one 6 episode season. But if I have to rank them:

1. Daredevil Season 3
2. Hawkeye
3. Wandavision
4. Daredevil season 2
5. The Punisher Season 1
6. Jessica Jones Season 1
7. What if?...
8. The Punisher season 2
9. Loki
10. Daredevil Season 1
11. Runaways Season 1
12. The Defenders
13. Iron Fist Season 1
14. Luke Cage Season 1
15. Agent Carter Season 1
16. Cloak and Dagger season 1
17. Iron Fist Season 2
18. Luke Cage Season 2
19.The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
20. Inhumans
21. Agent Carter Season 2
22, Jessica Jones Season 2

Haven't seen the final Seasons of Jessica Jones, Cloak and Dagger or Runaways.

I am not including Agents of Shield, because there are just too damn many, and I feel like it ended up not really being an MCU show at the end it was just kind of its own thing.

If Legion or The Gifted ever get canonized, those will be high up there. That reminds me, I still have to watch the last 2 seasons of Legion.

reply

The Netflix Shows are canon , Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock in She-Hulk and Vincent D'Onofrio is in Hawkeye.

reply

We are still not completely certain Vincent D'Onofrio will show up in the finale, I mean in full view, not just glimpses of his suit & cufflinks.

I think so far we are only seeing the body double.

reply

um...yes we are. He has been credited already. Charlie Cox appeared in Spider-man: No Way Home last week. I would stake my house on it.

reply

That remains to be seen. It has been speculated that the characters will be different in the MCU.

reply

Guess I was right to skip JJS2? lol

I stopped with the netflix stuff after Defenders (which I vehemently hated). Maybe I should take a look at DD S3.

reply

You absolutely should see DD-S3.

None of the other shows had a good S2, I didn't much like LC-S1 and I hated Iron Fist and Defenders. Did not watch S2 of IF.

Such a shame. They could have done the Defenders well. I still have hope for a Defenders movie with a proper cast of characters.

reply

I skipped Iron Fist for all the cliche reasons, but good to know.

And yeah, they could have done Defenders well in my opinion, but I think the script was really sloppy. I remember pointing out all sorts of narrative disappointments. Like the show felt like it just didn't function. Kinda like BvS which I enjoy watching, but I still have to concede is a poorly constructed narrative.

And since I absolutely loved JJ S1 and LC S1, I was like...you know what. Let me keep this with me lol.

reply

Iron Fist and Defenders managed to transform the mystical assassin group The Hand into a Club-Med youth retreat center group with Sigourney Weaver as its diabolical head. The utter disgrace of what they did to The Hand is a badge of dishonor that permanently shook my faith in Netflix's ability to make decent cape shows. Not to mention what an unimpressive idiot the actor playing Iron fist is. I thought it was all over. And then it was.

I give Diz credit for What If?, Wandavision (though flawed) and Hawkeye.

reply

Wandavision and What If are the only other MCU shows are my radar for sure. What If just sounds cool to me from what I've read, and various people I know have suggested that I'll probably like Wandavision given my cinematic tastes.

reply

DD S3 has the best pacing of the 3 seasons, it doesn't suffer from the filler episodes that the other two seasons have. It has Kingpin back, and also another great villain in Bullseye, and the best fight scene in the series.

reply

Cool, between you and the other guy, maybe I'll catch up on Daredevil then. Love Vincent D'onofrio and holy cow I didn't know bullseye was cast in there haha. I actually know nothing about the netflix series outside the ones I watched. Hope S3 ends well too. I enjoyed S1 and S2 through and through though I feel like both didn't conclude that well for me.

Oh, according to that chart, DD was ranked progressively better. Cool.
Not surprised with JJ. For me, Jessica Jones S1 was a masterpiece of a miniseries that I could gush endlessly about. By tv show standards, not even by its comic book brethren.

reply

I always check on that site if I'm not sure whether to invest in starting a new series, especially if it has multiple seasons. You can see by the trends if it's going to be worth the investment or not.

And yeah, I only got a few episodes into JJ season 2. Without any more source material and without Killgrave, it degenerated into nonsense. All of the worst aspects of the of the first series were still there or worse, like the poor action choreography, and JJ became utterly unlikeable. Where she was always on the edge of being unlikeable in the first series, they took it to a whole new level.

reply

JJ S2 has elements to appreciate. Pretty much all the side character stuff is cool. All of Jessica's story line is rubbish and irritating on an Iron Fist level. I couldn't get past the 2nd episode of S3.

reply

Hmm, I did feel that the side characters deserved a bit more in S1 but ugh...lol it's gonna be hard to watch S2 if Jessica-arc is dumb haha. I'll just underprioritize that a bit, especially if it's not gonna be relevant to the MCU as far as we know.
