Why are people saying this is good?

The whole movie took place in a park. He was on the phone the whole time making calls that were boring and out of place. The character interactions were completely stupid. I mean cmon, Kilmer pays the pigeon man to watch over the gay kid he keeps talking to for no reason? And I think the dialogue was bad, I'm not quite sure though because the audio levels were so poorly mixed it sounded like they were mumbling the whole time. This movie was terrible.

Oh, and the whole movie takes place on Columbus Day for some reason........lame.

dude. i totally agree. i was reading the other posts and became very confused, because i thought this was the worst movie i've seen this year. it was slow, the plot was terrible, and the wife's reaction to his gunshot wound at the end made absolutely no sense. and i thought all the same things you mentioned.

In all defense, Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope" all took place in one scene, and it's one of the most brilliant movies in the history of Hollywood.

I agree that the dialogue could've been improved, though, and the sound editing was poor at times. I found myself straining to hear conversations at some points.

When you read some of the IMDB Trivia about the movie, you learn that the movie was supposed to be indie, rather than action. I'd say that pretty much sums up the whole issue. As an action movie, it seemed too quaint and personable, and as an indie film, it seemed to contradict itself with its high-speed, adrenaline-inducing, non-typical drama content.

But overall, I wouldn't take for granted the elements. Everything was put in the film for a reason. It could've been much improved, but, in my opinion, I wouldn't say it was bad. But that's just me. To each his own, right?

Yes it was supposed to be an indie movie. But it ended up being some muddled morality taile, family values happy ending movie for a guy who is a thief and a killer
