How does the ageing work?

Old Shazam looks about 40 whereas Mary looks around 20 and is the same character for both.

When Billy reaches 18 will he stay looking like that or still revert to old Shazam.

Is old Shazam what he will look like when he's 40?

Maybe they explained but i wasn't very focussed on the film and paying much attention.
