Ugh...

More? God damn, thought it was going to be the end and they would try something new or different but they're just continuing the same formula but for the first generation kids that grew up in the hellscape. Are people still into this after the original is coming to a close? Don't forget we also got Fear The Walking Dead as well.

From what I heard:
Teen idiots leaving the safety of their sanctuary to go on a road trip. Total snooze fest with idiotic characters who do the dumbest things and say even dumber things.

Out of the 4 teens there is exactly 1 who is a decent actor. In episode 2 none can kill an "empty", and the ending to episode 1? Can't find the girls? Massacre the settlement for no reason.

Rooting for the "empties" in this situation. In the "real" TWD universe all these characters would be thankfully dead by now.

I loved the original series and grew unusually attached its main characters. Now, it's gone on too long, and watching the endless threat of zombies combined with human violence has become depressing as well as truly stressful. I just want my favorite characters (The Alexandrians) to find a cure, live peacefully and rebuild their new world the best way they can. The End.

I'm 15 mins into ep1 and how reassuring it is to know that they still found the time to be teenage SJW's after the zombie apocalypse happened.

Don't know if I can stomach making it to the end. It's like a really bad teen drama so far.

reply

I made it to the end.

They should rename it The Woking Dead.

I was cringing so hard on all the teen drama bullshit, OMG!
but the hook with Civic republic got me a little interested.
The show runners know exactly what they're doing - the bastards! LOL

reply

I think the showrunners know exactly what they are doing also - ruining it's legacy and killing off the series for good!

I wasn't intrigued enough to want to watch the next episode.

Just what I was about to say. Reminds me of those vampire shows on The CW, but with zombies.

I'll stick it out to get some backstory in preparation for The Walking Dead movie trilogy, but that's about it. Thank goodness it's ending after two seasons.

I watched maybe the first 26 minutes. The promos already didn't make me want to watch The Walking Dead Jr. but I was still curious. From the beginning I felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie, from there on it was very "teen" heavy with the lead girl narrating from her book report or whatever. It doesn't appeal to me in anyway, maybe if I was a teenager. It was too shiny, clean, and safe. I didn't watch the whole thing, but I saw the end, and it was like, Iris, I think her name was going to kill a walker and I just thought, is this what they are going to do? I don't buy a group of teens going to survive in certain situations that we've seen others die from in TWD.

I get they want to build this franchise, but it only looks more like it's dying. I'd rather watch the same show I've been watching for 10 years. And I thought they were fine with just the Fear spinoff.

reply

This show from what i've read is mainly to set up Rick's movies, its only going for 2 seasons and by the end of the second season it will lead into the first Rick movie. So its not made to be another big show that has alot of seasons like Fear, its primarily to show us more of the people that took Rick, the Civic Republic.

Its probably a good idea to watch it just to be more educated about the Civic Republic before Rick's movie comes out.

reply

Is this setup where he gets recused in the helicopter? If so then these people or teens would later grow up to form some new safe haven to rescue Rick? What are the Rick movies going to be about? I thought it centered around his rescue.

reply

Interesting, so they confirmed it's only going to be two Seasons tops?

I admit I wasn't really into the first two episodes, but I can cut it some slack if it's really more an appetizer to lead into Rick's movie. If The World Beyond wants to be like Fear the Walking Dead and go on for 6+ seasons, I don't think they will last long enough. I have a feeling the ratings for both nights were considerably low compared to the other two main Walking Dead shows.

HUGE WALKING DEAD FAN...FOR 5 OR 6 YEARS...PARTIAL FAN NOW...THE FIRST 3 SEASONS ARE PERFECT TELEVISION...IT SLOWLY UNRAVELS AFTER THAT...TOO MUCH HUMAN ON HUMAN VIOLENCE AND TO MANY CHARACTERS WITHOUT THE REQUIRED CHARISMA TO CARE ABOUT....I STILL WATCH,BUT ITS MEDIOCRE TO KIND OF GOOD AT BEST THESE DAYS...I DROPPED OUT OF FEAR AFTER SEASON 1 BUT MIGHT TRY AGAIN...I DID WATCH THIS SHOWS PREMIERE...IT WAS OK...NOT BAD...I JUST HAVE TWO QUESTIONS...GROWING UP IN THE APOCALYPSE...THE MAIN FEMALE CHARACTER...WHAT HAS SHE BEEN EATING AND HERE IS SHE GETTING HER HAIR DID?

reply

I'm not loving the first two episodes. I think one problem is they are simply going through the same motions we've seen countless times already. New inexperienced travelers have trouble killing their first Walker. I get it, but we've seen that many times.

Also, since they were in that community for 10 years, and even had the benefit of educational classes that Rick's group never had, I would hope these teens would be more clever than your average kid. Maybe they think of clever traps, strategies and weapon-creation. And maybe they learn the difference between reading something vs. actually applying and testing it in the real world. That would at least give the show a different angle.

But what we see is them traveling on foot, mumbling a few lines, grappling with a Walker and the SUSPENSE music kicks in like always. It's the same thing every time.

When they went to the tire fire, I wanted one of them to have the awareness of maybe trying to get to high ground to scope out fallback routes. Maybe spray paint the walls of some buildings to signify that this is there return spot in case Plan A fails spectacularly. I don't know...give me something to show the characters are thinking and calculating more, and not simply roaming slowly and mumbling low grade philosophy. We've gotten endless seasons of that already.

You're reminding me of those zombies games like Dead Island, Dead Rising (also a movie), Dying Light. Craft unique weapons and massacre the zombie horde.

Are you seeing the same NINJA zombies? Supreme +99 stealth then RAWRRRGHHH 2-5 feet away?

So it's just inexperienced kids running away or what?

reply

They are also doing a Carol and daryl show soon as well as the Rick TV movies. Apparently the next series of walking dead will be the last of that series.

I've only watched the main series so far. It's went on for too long but don't think multiple spinoffs is the way forward. It just feels like they are doing too much

reply

I'm still into it, and also just as much into FTWD (if not even more so, actually).

As for World Beyond... well, as a rusted-on fan I'll probably keep watching it. They are pitching this World Beyond 2-season series as a sort of primer, so's we can get ready with our background knowledge for the Rick movies...

"The Carol & Daryl Show" - sounds like a midday TV chat show! Anyone wanna speculate as to what it will eventually be called? Then we can all come back here in 2 years time and see if any of us were right (or claim applicable royalty payments!)😁
