I could see it being real. Then again, I could see it not being real. It's perfectly possible that he did, though. You don't have to cut that deep to draw a lot of blood.
Scars fade, some quicker than others. A friend got slashed across his eye by a drunk last year but now, you have to look really close to see it at all; people who didn't know him then don't notice it.
Also, there have been performance artists who have disfigured themselves and drawn blood in various ways, and Marina Abramović who allowed the audience to do whatever they wanted to her, including cut her skin. So him not dying doesn't discount the possibility that he actually cut himself.
If it was fake, he did a great job on making it look real, so great performance either way. I could see the neck slash being fake just for safety reasons. It's perfectly reasonable to "safely" slice your own wrist because you can see it. Neck's a little trickier being below the field of vision and all.
