its really annoying when the Women's (Kunoichi) is smothering G4's daily schedule, its boring compared to the men's (Sasuke)

reply

This is true, if you are not a heterosexual male.

reply

Perhaps. I'm a heterosexual male and I love it, at least partly because 90% of the competitors are smokin' hot. But I also like the sometimes over-the-top reactions of the audience. And the play-by-play man is pretty enthusiastic too.

Attractive women are always a plus but I am the only heterosexual male I know who actually watches Kunoichi primarily for the competition and the obstacles. I enjoy comparing and contrasting it to Sasuke, and not in the oversimplified tone of "it's easier" that is used by so many. Obviously it will look easier juxtaposed against Sasuke because the obstacles are less rigorous but in my opinion Kunoichi is still very challenging in it's own right. Just because it looks "easier" than Sasuke doesn't mean it's easy in general. Besides, isn't that the whole point of having a competition for the women? You know, so the women actually have a chance of advancing further than they normally would? I have one question for anyone who has ever complained that Kunoichi is too easy. How would have you constructed the course differently? Which obstacles would you have used? Obstacles more similar to the ones on Sasuke, right? Again, that defeats the whole purpose of having a strictly female tournament! We've already seen what happens when most women take on Sasuke.

I think the course designers did a pretty apt job on the layout of Kunoichi. Throw in some modified versions of Sasuke obstacles and add some challenging original ones that are specifically designed to test one's balance. Kunoichi is a satellite show, or perhaps "sister" is a more appropiate term, of Sasuke anyway so it's not exactly supposed to be harder, easier, or the same in terms of level of difficulty. It's just different. It's customized for women. That's not hard to understand.

Besides, Kunoichi has evolved very similarly to Sasuke anyway. Sasuke generally sees anywhere from 5-15 people pass the first stage. In the more recent tournaments it's far less. Kunoichi's numbers were roughly the same in the past and in the 2007 tournament only four women advanced past stage one. Those numbers are comparable. If thirty women beat the first stage every tournament than I might buy that it's too easy.

And I suppose someone may use the argument that it must be easy because it was conquered three times by the same woman? True, but Ayako Miyake is a gymnastics and acrobatics spealist. She performed with Muscle Musical and you have to have an elite skill set to join their ranks. Given her small stature she was born to conquer Kunoichi. However, no one won the first three tournaments or the lastest one. Aside from Ayako the only women who came close were Yuko Mizuno and a couple others in Kunoichi 3. If Kunoichi were as easy as some people claimed don't you think it would have been beaten by multiple women on several different occasions rather than just one? Sasuke has already been beaten twice and was very nearly conquered in several other instances (Nagano comes within a split second of winning in 12, Yamada comes just a few feet away in 3, Kane Kosugi nearly wins 8).

Ultimately I'm saying that people who whine about Kunoichi being too easy are not only wrong but missing the entire point.

I agree. The courses seem to stress different skills. Kunoichi stresses balance while Sasuke stresses strength.

If the zombies are gonna eat us, we might as well be drunk.

reply

Exactly. I'll be watching Kunoichi with girls who have already seen Sasuke and they'll see certain obstacles and be like "I can do that!". That's the poiont. Women have a hard time doing Sasuke because a lot of it requires a large ammount of strength. While some men would have a hard time with Kunoichi because it requires a lot of balance.

reply

absolutely agree

Recently they played Sasuke 2 where Chie Tanabe cleared the first stage. Too bad none of the other Kunoichi women were there. Most of them could have done it.

I completely agree with you. If anything, and I hope this statement isn't pure blasphemy, the First Stage of Sasuke 2 was actually easier than any of the first stage designs on Kunoichi. I mean, Sasuke 2 had the Barrel Climb and that Rapid Descent obstacle where all you do is leap to the ground below. Comparatively, Kunoichi has had very tricky obstacles like the Dancing Stones, Barrel Roll, and Hop Rocket in the First Stage. I'm just saying, is all...

But yeah, every time I watch the First Stage of that second Sasuke tournament I think to myself that Ayako Miyake would have destroyed it with like 20 seconds to spare. Unfortunately, she may have shared Chie's fate on the Spider Walk because she's just so petite and delicate.

"Generally you don't see that kind of behavior in a major appliance."

reply

I actually like the women's version much better. The men's competition basically only focuses on strength. The women's tournament focuses on speed, agility, blance, and strength.

reply

Well to be fair, stage two's main focus used to be speed and there were some obstacles that required balance. However, the balance in Sasuke is nothing compared to Kunoichi just as the strength in Kunoichi is nothing compared to Sasuke.

reply

When is the next Kunoichi anyway? Seems like they do the Sasuke in spring and fall so I'd think it would have been in summer.

reply

I was curious about when the next women's was myself. I really enjoyed the last few(besides the one they just showed with the girls. Too many easy falls)
I hope they show another soon.

The mens course is designed to test the mens strengths and the womens course designed to test the womens strength. We've seen women not do so well on the mens course, iirc only one has made it to the end of stage 1. But does this mean that men wouldn't do so well on the womens course ?

BTW We don't think less of women for doing so badly on the mens course (iiuc) because women are built differently and the mens course tests strength and women are naturally weaker than men, which is why the womens course has been designed differently to reflect womens differing abilities. I'm wondering if there is any kind of sport that women would be naturally better than men at, and which we wouldn't look down on the men for doing badly because at this sport women are naturally designed better for it. ? <- just wondering.
( though maybe the very nature of competitive sports could be male orientated and so my question would be mute )

What special? I guess I prefer Kunoichi to Sasuke, since whenever an episode comes on and I see "Women of Ninja Warrior" instead of just "Ninja Warrior" I get a little more excited. Plus, it was a welcome break during the marathon G4 showed this weekend. (Not taking anything away from Sasuke, I like them both)
Was anybody else surprised when Ayako Miyake fell during the second stage (I'm guessing it was the most recent kunoichi tournament)? Seriously, when she fell off the last obstacle, my expression matched the other competitors, pure shock.

Hello, haven't watched that one yet. Spoiler alert or something?

Oh, sorry wildflower. Got ahead of myself and forgot the spoiler alert. At least I didn't say which stage, so you have that to look forward to. (hey, cut me some slack, I'm trying to regain something out of this)

That's ok. I just need to get caught up. Now I want to watch that episode even more!

Had to have been the best episode of this show I've ever seen.
I doubt the American one will be as good. In fact, I'm not sure why they're doing one. The Japanese one is perfect the way it is. Plus we don't need two going on at once. Anyway....just my opinion.

Awesome episode. Hope it gets replayed before Dec12 (when the American one starts up on G4).

btw, yes I'm American....from Florida.
So I'm not just hating on America or something immature.
We'll find out in less than two weeks but I have to say, they should just keep it Japanese. Contestants from all over is great, I just like this Japanese production better lol Much more entertaining if you ask me.

I was just watching Kunoichi 7 and I wonder if anyone else noticed something or maybe I am just wrong.

They introduced the log jam where contestants have to hit a button than run across two logs then race to jump and catch a moving yellow bag.

The first few people who made it that far had to really race to catch the bag. It sure seemed to me later contestants, even if the went slowly across the logs had plenty of time to catch the bag, the fastest having to wait for it.

I think they slowed the bag down mid contest, which to me wasn't fair to the people who went early.
