Why 2.5? Easy answer. This movie was shot in Mexico, not in Hollywood. Now add the usual Disney hate (pretty strong here on IMDB) and there's your rating.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua is a nice little innocent family fun movie with a nonsense story. It never wants to be realistic and all it wants to do is entertain. And it this it succeeds. They've used celebrities with good voices for the animals (Plácido Domingo must be the best stunt casting ever) and there's Piper Perabo. :-) What more to ask for? IMO the best "talking animals" movie since "Babe" and I look forward to a second part.

Very true plus you get the people who well come on here and rate movies low or 0's even though they didn't even see them. This movies nothing great I took my lil sister to go see it but, it's not 2.5 bad. I've seen worse movies rated better. Its your typical childrens movie nothing more nothing less. I gave it a 5
I'm as tough a movie critic as they come and compared to much of the "adult-themed" garbage that gets greenlit by studios today, I thought this one wasn't bad at all. It amazes me how adults will get on here and defend putrid atrocities known as Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans, but then get on here and rip films clearly targeting a younger audience, like this one. I watched this movie with my kids who like I, liked it.It is not nearly as bad as the rating it is receiving indicates. Should be in the 5-6 range.
If you REALLY want to see some pure garbage passed off as kids movies, check out Baby Genuises 1 and 2 or Son of the Mask. Now those are true, epic pieces of cinematic waste. Unwatchable.
It was sweet movie and should have about 6 in my opinion.
shareIMO a fair overall rating would be 4-6. I gave it an 8 which is quite high, but that was based on various factors not just did I like the film or not. As has been mentioned before it is up there with Babe in terms of animal talking films.
I'm not sure there could be a sequel as I'm not sure where it could logically go.

A 5 is an appropriate rating. It is amazing that low-budget slasher trash gets higher ratings than that. This movie, although hardly "realistic" is quite well-done, and has a good underlying message and romantic subplot. The voices and the animals' onscreen "personalities" are at least up to Disney standards.
Do you like Disney flix? Fantasy talking animal flix? Chihuahas? Then when you're in the mood, rent the DVD and decide for yourself what the true rating should be.
This is a movie for six year olds is why, people want family movies, this is not a family movie, it's a movie an otherwise apathetic adult can sit through, not laugh, and know their kid enjoyed it at least. This is in line with cash ins on a certain demographic, like young dumb males with Disaster Movie and all of that nonsense.

Yes it is a kids movie, but also for women who pamper their little dogs by spending enormous amounts of cash so their little - "Center of the Universe" can wear a little dress.

Regardless, this film is now up to 3.2. I just voted it a 6. As with most new releases, people vote either 1 or 10 on opening weekend based on the political considerations, and this has enough of an "ugh" factor to turn off people who didn't see it. For those who actually did, I'd suspect most would vote somewhere in the middle. share
