Question about Raisa ***SPOILER***

Overall I liked the movie, however I still have several questions. The one thing that doesn't make sense to me is Raisa's ongoing contempt for Leo, especially when they are transferred to Volsk. Although I understand she didn't love him and hated that he was MGB, etc. he did give up his career and reputation to protect her. I found it odd in the train station scene when Leo follows her and they argue, then back at the apartment when she tells him she is not pregnant and that she didn't want to marry him, etc. (which for me was one of the best scenes in the movie and a testament to what makes Tom Hardy a great talent) and lastly after they return from Gary Oldman's house and she says she doesn't need his protection anymore (which to me is completely untrue because she absolutely needs his protection). It just doesn't make sense that she would still have that much animosity towards him after all that occurred up until that point. To me it would have been more realistic if she started to warm up to him slightly while in Volsk and then the emotions grew until the end of the movie. Does the book give more background/explanation?

I wanna know, too... anyone?

I think it's because she has no other option, Leo has been the only constant, and reliable person in her life by the sounds of it. For a woman in that period, in that country someone with Leo's stature was probably the safest bet for her.

Also, her teacher friend whom she thought could trust, turned out to be the bad guy.

I have to agree. I can understand her initial contempt for him and the fear underlying it where she had to lie about her pregnancy to save her life. But he have up a lot for her still, and I also expected her to warm up to him.

Still what happened with her and Vasili's man? Did he rape her?
