i know the general background is dvorak's 9th, but does anyone know what the non-classical music is?

Richard Gibbs, did the soundtrack. I'm guessing it's just basic pieces that he wrote.

A shameless plug: The version of "New World Symphony" by Dvorak featured on Tracey Ullman: State Of The Union is by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra on Naxos.

No - but my business represents record labels and places music in film and TV. They happened to like the version on Naxos and we arranged to license it to them for use in every episode. Richard Gibbs did a wonderful job composing updated cues that blend in with the original classical performance cues.

Hey, I was wondering if the version used in the show is actually available, or did Richard update the entire piece? If it's taken from a particular album, please let me know. Thanks for the info!

Yes. It is Naxos CD 8.553229 performed by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra.
