Only 5 eps? Tragic.

So the season finale will be showing next Sun (4/27)? I'm shocked! I hope this is no indication of the show not being well received! I'm sure each episode is very time-intensive with all that goes into each character, so perhaps this is the reason for such a short season.

Honestly, I've loved Tracey's brand of humor since I was a kid and I think there is a whole new generation that will be endeared to her as well if given the chance!

The show has been tremendously well-received. The series was marked to be a 5 episode series. It was shot in two weeks. Tracey's already thinking about who she wants to portray next, including Josh Groban. I'm sure Showtime will renew the series, since it's been such a hit. The ratings for the first week were the best since, Californication, a year before. She has said that the show is very expensive, and that she and her husband finance it themselves. Hopefully Showtime will kick up the budget. I think it works well as a shorter series, although I think it should be 6-8 episodes for the second series. They fit in so many characters into each episode. I think an announcement will be made in May. She's suppose to be at the NYT Sunday Magazine event, to speak about her new series early next month. The series will have been concluded by then. She began writing the show last May, and shot it in the first week of October, beating the Writer's strike.

I've been a long-time fan of Tracey Ullman, so I had high hopes for this show. And maybe I'll warm to it next season. But the problem for me is, at least in the first season, none of the characters are very engaging. Where the hell is Kay Clark (my all-time favorite Ullman persona)? Where's Trevor Ayliss? Sure, Tracey's always had a few characters you loved to hate, and a few who didn't click; but she also had a few endearing characters who were guaranteed gold, and they were ultimately the reason to keep coming back.

And Tracey ... ? I haven't forgotten that Kay's mother finally passed away, and Kay's game to start dating. Darn tootin' I want to see that!

Those characters are gone. Tracey made a new line-up of characters when she moved to HBO, and she did it again for Showtime. She already explained that the HBO characters are outdated. They are stereotypes that do not work today.

Well there were only, I think, 4 episodes in the first season of Mr. Show with Bob and David.

Also tragic....I'm pretty sure one of her characterizations was Laura Bush back in Texas managing with Dubya like he was a ten year old (Dubya always off camera). On the DVDs - gone. Was pressure put on to drop them from this release? She poked fun at other powerful people and they're there.
