I wondered if anyone knew where I might find this story in English translation. Is there a compilation in which it is included? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm not that I know of. In Portuguese it's included in a short stories book by the author titled "Contos".

Thanks. I actually just recently found it in a collection by Queiros called The Mandarin and Other Stories.

Yes I did but it's pretty slight. I'm sure that Oliveira will simply use it as a foundation to build upon, as he usually does.
