F-14 on Tony's desk...

My guess is it was an homage to Top Gun. There really isn't any reason Tony himself would have an F-14 model on his desk. If Tony was a military aviation enthusiast, it more likely would've been a Mig.

No one noticed it?

Agree, likely a homage to Top Gun. However Antonio was an arms dealing Spaniard not necessarily a communist sympathizer. There is also a naval base in Cádiz that supports the Sixth Fleet thus (for a Spanish aviation enthusiast) I suspect the F-14 would be more popular than a Mig. http://imgur.com/Cd9URqR

As far as is known (publicly that is), only America and Iran have used the F-14. I guess it does have enough swag to have worldwide appeal though lol. What's more surprising to me is that out of all the fans of the movie that post here, you and I are the only ones that noticed it. Usually I'm the LAST one to notice stuff like that in movies.

Sweet still shot by the way.

I just realized most people would have no clue as to what an F-14 is, let alone notice a model of one lol. I tend to forget that's not common knowledge...

Being that Antonio was a bad guy, shouldn't he technically have had the fictional enemy MiG-28 (F-5 Tiger) from Top Gun on his desk instead?

Didn't notice it but will look for it next time. I noticed June asked Roy "Are you a pilot?" after she came into the cockpit. Contrast this with Charlie's semi-sarcastic line from Top Gun (1986): "You're a pilot."

Lol, thats true...

Or maybe Antonio, who could never please a woman, according to Jude, and who likes hanging out with men, and would enjoy nothing more than to get on Iceman's tail, just loves Topgun.

Let's not discount the fact that the f14 is a fairly unique plane, and I think particularly attractive compared to most migs. Maybe he just likes the f14.

Or lets not forget that such things are almost always gifts. He might have been given a tomcat shot down by a mig, that got turned into a model tomcat (cheeky commies always liked doing that) and given to him by one of his shady clients. Or the Iranians might have given him a a nice desk set with one as thanks for procuring parts for their obsolete aircraft... Or it might be a gift from Grumman, or some US department to say thanks for a particularly large or dodgy arms deal, or for years of service supplying terrorist allies in Iraq or Afghanistan... Or perhaps Eduardo made it for him, and he hates it, but can't throw it out because it will hurt his feelings.

Or it could just be that the props department went with whatever was on hand, or the props rental company provided.

Either way I wouldn't worry too much about the whys.
