This movie is PURE CRAP *Spoilers*

There I said it. I honestly felt cheated of my time.

Usually when I see movies with 7.0+ ratings, I'm always pleased at the end and think to myself "Hey, no wonder why this movie got a 7.x rating." This movie however is one where I'm left wondering "HOW IN THE HELL DID THIS MOVIE GET A 7.2 RATING." Good thing though is that only about 3500 people voted. I'm pretty sure once it hits 8,000, the movie would be a good 6.2. And from then, it'll just decline slowly.

What made this movie crap:
-A cop kills himself because he is in debt? Was he that weak? Black belt my ass.

-The ending didn't explain crap.

-Did Tim Arnold not appreciate Terry saving his ass at the bar?

-Fight scenes were weak as hell

-So many other nonsense that just makes you upset

BLAH . GAY MOVIE.

reply

I loved this movie. While parts of it were confusing and not thought out entirely, it was still a well-paced film that had a good message overall. Chiwetel Efiojor was excellent. As for the cop, he had been suspended from his job after they traced the hot watch back to him. He wasn't going to sell out Terry, so he got busted. Debt, suspension, it all came into play.

"-A cop kills himself because he is in debt? Was he that weak? Black belt my ass."

It was more than just debt and the whole Japanese culture honorable suicide thing played a large part into it

"-The ending didn't explain crap."

Try watching it

"-Did Tim Arnold not appreciate Terry saving his ass at the bar?"

Tim Allen? Maybe?

"-Fight scenes were weak as hell"

Were you expecting them to curve bullets?

"-So many other nonsense that just makes you upset "

Examples, and maybe some grammar when you post?

thank you UNTRugby.

"Were you expecting them to curve bullets?"

Might as well have, with how realistic this movie is.

reply

Funny. In every damn movie thead there is one *beep* son of a bitch with a small penis, tellin us how crappy the movie was.

Dude, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT! Go and play your videogames and let real men watch these movies.

*beep* idiot

reply

uh huh.

SURE.

Whatever you say.

Those who actually enjoyed the movie should be ashamed of themselves.

reply

Those who frequent message boards for movies they hated should get a life. Honestly, do you not have anything better to do with your free time?

Prof. Farnsworth: Oh. A lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa!

reply

1) If you listen to the dialog, the cops wife says as she picks up his suicide note, that he killed himself because he didn't want to disgrace Mike.

2) What did you need explained?

3) Tim Allan appreciated Mike saving his life, but you seem to be forgetting what kind of world his character lives in. After the stolen watch bit, he was probably told to distance himself from Mike, for liability purposes.

4) This movie isn't about fighting. It's about honor.

5) Like your last comment you mean?

1. It wasn't just that the cop was in debt. He was in debt and had been suspended from active duty for selling the watch Mike gave him which was stolen. Now, obviously the police weren't going to just leave it at that. They would eventually press on him to tell them who gave him the stolen watch, which would bring shame on Mike, or he would probably have been fired and possibly sentenced to some jail time for pawning a hot watch, which would again bring shame on Mike and his dojo (having one of his black belts jailed for what most people would have perceived as being a crooked cop). We see early in the movie that Officer Joe is one of, if not the most devout of Mike's trainees and apparently would have rather died than shame Mike.

2. Tim ALLEN probably did initially appreciate Mike saving his life but after a while saw that he could use Mike to advance his own career, maybe even initially planning to do right by Mike as well. In fact, we don't know 100% for sure that Tim Allen's character is the one to betray Mike. Remember, Mike faxes everything to Allen's agent or whatever the guy was and he is the one meeting with the fight promoter's and is the one that actually is doing all the dirty, underhanded sh*t. Whether it's with Tim Allen's go ahead or not, we cannot be 100% sure. Even if it is, is it really that hard to believe there are just straight up nasty people like that in the world that will take your help when you offer it and then take anything worth of value from you and not give you a second thought? Believe me, they are out there.

3. The movie isn't about the actual fighting but the characters involved in this world of fighters. That said, it still is important for a movie like this to get the fighting right. I can't say too much about how good or bad it is as I'm certainly no expert, but I do know that not all fighting styles are as flashy as what you see on TV and in movies and I would assume that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more about practical moves that win the battle as quickly and easily as possible rather than looking cool while kicking butt.

reply

EXACTLY

just as PATHETIC.

hahahahahaha

I don't want to shame my friend so I'm going to kill myself?

Do you guys not understand how gay that is?

Seriously, those who liked this movie should be ashamed of themselves.

There are better ways to depict honor in a movie.

HAHAHA.

"Hey , look at me, I'm so loyal and honorable that I'm going to kill myself and leave my wife struggling just so I don't bring shame on my Sensei".

reply

The last thing you should be lecturing us about are ways to depict honor. You're just a walking joke. A bad one. What's with all the "hahahahha," do you want to sound like a moron? It's gay to commit suicide in the name of honor? It's a movie! Plus, what do you mean by "gay." Only gay guys commit suicide? Your sense of honor is about as keen as your ability to out up a good debate for your comments. Either make a point for once or just shut up.

reply

moghman = gay

look at what your saying. really. think about what your saying.

fool , stay in school.

I'm not making a point. I'm stating my opinion.

Think about the storyline just a tad bit more.

The copy KILLS HIMSELF, leaves his wife struggling all because he wants to protect his teacher from having to deal with a stolen watch he tried ponding?

I MEAN WTF IS THAT.

SO GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

reply

oh i'm gay bobbyh2? quite the opposite, i like women. quit being a dick. i know what i'm saying very well, and i did stay in school, so once again, shut the *beep* up. you're just stating your opinion, i see. basically you're saying you have nothing to back up why it's your opinion other than saying that a cop who kills himself is gay. in a movie, there may be a character who is messed up mentally. while you or i wouldn't kill ourselves, this guy would. and i bet there are people out there who would sadly do the same thing. writing it off as "gay" or "being a pussy" completely ruins the point of the film. THAT IS THE CHARACTER'S CHOICE, NOT YOURS. Unless you have something to back up these statements you've made, don't say anything, especially if you just plan to keep up with the childish comments. Write something somewhat interesting, or go back to school and learn how to have a discussion.

reply

blah blah blah blah.

Whats up w/ the stupid ass ending???

Why are so many people left confused? How does a movie get a 7.1 rating and confuse the crap out of people.

And no, don't say its because I'm a moron who can't comprehend films with meaning. This was just poorly executed. No excuses.

hahahahha ....cop actually killed himself for his teacher.

reply

"blah blah blah blah."
Real mature dick wad.

"Why are so many people left confused? How does a movie get a 7.1 rating and confuse the crap out of people."
How many people are you speaking for, besides yourself. How was it confusing? Some of the best movies have endings that sometimes confuse the audience. It makes the audience think what happened. No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, and The Usual Suspects are all examples. I don't think Rebelt is in the same league as those films, but it made certain audience members think a little harder instead of handing the resolution to people on a silver platter.

"And no, don't say its because I'm a moron who can't comprehend films with meaning. This was just poorly executed. No excuses."
I don't call people a "moron" for not liking a certain film. I call them a "moron" for leaving immature posts that have nothing to do with the movie.

"hahahahha ....cop actually killed himself for his teacher."
oh that's funny. haha. yeah, suicide is hilarious. what the *beep* is your problem?

reply

Are you suicidal? Did I hurt your feelings?

LOL...

its FUNNY that in the movie the cop actually killed himself. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm implying that suicide is funny.

Seriously you have to GROW UP SON.

reply

I'm not suicidal as a matter of fact, but I know people who are very close to me that have been. It's a very scary thing when a friend describes a suicide attempt. If you don't think suicide is funny, then what the hell do you mean when you say it's funny that the cop kills himself. Don't call me son, and the last thing you should be telling someone is to grow up. You've obviously never known anyone who was suicidal. I guess you just hang around a bunch of dicks who are always happy with no bad personal problems. You don't know what it feels like to deal with people like that, then just stop opening your mouth. When you do, there is a constant stream of s**t that even a 8-year old would find immature. Do you have anything to defend yourself with? Other than these last LAME replys you've sent.

reply

You can laugh at the suicide in the movie and not be making fun of suicide.

I understand that it could be laughable. I just think it's not real in the movie.

Let's try not to take things so personally, please.

reply

"I understand that it could be laughable. I just think it's not real in the movie."
It's stuff like this that confuses ME. Huh?

All right, maybe i overstepped a little earlier. still, MikeMaringka, do you agree with bobby that it was funny that the cop kills himself. would you describe it as: "hahahaha, the cops kills himself. he's a pussy. he's gay" and so on and so forth? i don't see how he's a "pussy" or "gay" for killing himself. did he have some secret love affair with his teacher that we didn't see? that can be seen as gay. that is of course if the word "gay" is used as it is defined, or if it's just a childish insult from the schoolyard that's used by jerkoffs. either way, i won't take things so "personally" in the future. at least i'll try not to. but back to my earlier question, do you agree with bobby and how he described it?

reply

Who said gay? I didn't say gay? What does this have to do with gay?

I don't think the cop is dead. I think that is part of the plot to test Mike.

I do not agree with Bobby. He thinks the movie is crap, and cites the cop's death as hilarious proof that his opinion is correct. I believe that he does not understand the movie, that the cop didn't die, that all of the characters in the film are part of a scheme to test Mike to see if he is deserving of the red belt.

Btw: this thread is about a movie called Redbelt. it is not about suicide. You can't have a sensitive discussion about suicide here. Nor about homophpbia.

reply

moghmannnnnn.

So heres the cop's situation.

Cop seems like a very good student and is about to earn a black belt. This obviously shows his determination in life (working as a cop, at a bar, and still able to obtain a black belt).

Hes referred to work at this bar by his friend Mike.

Cop gets ripped off by the people Mike referred him to. He doesn't get paid for doing his job at the bar. Hes struggling to pay bills as it is and seems to have a nice relationship with his wife. They wanted to go on a trip together and have some alone time.

Cop is too afraid to tell Mike about his situation about not being paid.

Cop gets a nice watch as gift from his friend Mike. Hes happy. He can sell this and use the money for good.

Cop ends up finding out it was a stolen/black marketed watch and gets in trouble for trying to pond it.

Cop gets suspended because of Mikes gift.

Cop kills himself.

I'm sorry I thought it was funny. I thought it was really funny because here you have a movie that tries display real life drama and feelings to the viewers and the cop kills himself FOR THAT? So he doesn't bring shame to Mike? So that Mike doesn't have to get involved in the watch investigation? COME ON...thats just SO FREAKING LAME.

House1000, you have clarified everything i was trying to say. Thank You. I once took martial arts for a five year period and it DOES teach you about honor and respect. in old traditions, to be disgraced was the worst thing for a martial arts person, worse than death. Thank you again, you know what i'm talking about.

Mike, I didn't say YOU said anything about "gay." i was responding to Bobby's overuse of the word to clarify a point. wrong word, lame point.

reply

You guys are too funny.

Even more gayer and stupider.

So now we got a disillusioned cop living in the city thinking that hes a martial artist and needs to live by the code of the samurai.

And you got me allllllll wrong. I do like movies that have meaning and make you actually think to appreciate it. But this movie just doesn't cut it.

It just doesn't. Its a shame that its rated 7.0+

reply

PURE CRAP I TELL YA!!!!!

reply

ignore the troll that is bobby guys.

reply

That's your problem if you're too stupid to figure out the meaning of the ending.

Also it's Tim Allen...

The fights scenes maybe seemed weak to you because they were realisitic, if it's not your style then go watch a *beep* jet li movie.

reply

The OP is obviously too used to watching Van Damme and Jackie Chan movies where the assailant gets knocked into a back flip and flies 15 ft across the room. Explains why the movie didn't do big numbers at the box office. There are a lot of people like him who can't get into anything too real.

reply

What an unintelligent post.
