Yeah, I think this movie had a lot of discrepancies, as well, and to be honest it sorta ruined it for me. The movie shows Rene proposing to Celine after the meeting with James Horner, but in reality, they were engaged in 1991 and married in 1994-- LONG before I would imagine they began recording music for Titanic. I know they may have kept their relationship a secret for a while, but I thought by the time they got married in '94 that it was common knowledge. At least, that's when I found out. And I know that was a long time before any mention of a little movie called Titanic.
Also, at the end, they show Celine singing "My Heart Will Go On" and they play little flashbacks or forwards of other highlights of her life, and it's confusing because it seems like she's performing that song concurrently with the birth of Rene-Charles, but since he was born in 2001, well... the whole thing was just very confusing to me.
I thought the actress did a pretty good job of portraying Celine. I'm an enormous Celine fan, and I guess she's really the closest thing I've seen to Celine, but the voice (I know it wasn't her, but Trish O'Brien) either way, I think to a true fan, it doesn't even come close. Still there were little mannerisms that Celine has (facial expressions, hand gestures, etc.) and the actress captured many of those.
Probably the biggest disappointment for me of this whole film, though, was the lack of accents! Are you kidding me?! Rene practically didn't even have one, and Celine's English was just waaayyy too clear.
People keeping giving this movie rave reviews, and honestly, I just wasn't that impressed.
Oh, and Celine was hit by a car, but it was when she was about 2, not 5.
