Release the series on DVD already.

Yatterman The Movie is available on DVD and Blu-Ray in numerous countries now, but the 1977 and more importantly, the 2008 series has yet to be released on DVD outside of Japan. I mean, Funimation and Viz Media releases so much crap, but none of them want to acquire the rights to this fantastic series? Sure, the series may not be that well known, but in comparison to a lot of the other stuff the release, this show should attract a couple of buyers, what with the recent live action movie and video game "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom".

I've got both series on Japanese DVDs. I think the 1977 version is more important--and far more entertaining. The new version flattens the Doronjo character, though more sexily clad, to two-dimensionality. The new version tended to use actual celebrities, locations, and events. It was initially aimed at adolescents, but increasingly aimed its content toward elementary school age. The original series had more adult content and had followings among adolescents and adults to the end. For those who have seen and heard both series, the villains' voices sound similar because they are all the same people. They did a cameo in the movie as the first customers to learn the cost of the sushi. That's why the movie Doronjo character did a double-take at hearing the woman's voice.
