I liked it a lot

It's not surprising to me that I did given the pedigree of the performers and the creative team, but I really enjoyed this film.

There were some things I didn't like (Washington seemed too mumbly for some of his (particularly early) scenes, how Lady Macbeth's death was handled), but mostly I liked it, and a lot of things I LOVED.

The Witches were a highlight, of course.

The cinematography was so good. It is, to my mind, the best-looking Macbeth film I've seen (I watched a BUNCH before watching this film).

Almost every performance is good or great.

I loved what they did with Ross.

That fight with Siward...yes...!

I liked it too but felt the 4:3 aspect ratio held it back. The photography was beautiful and wanted more.

I didn't really notice that, but I watched it on my home system, not in a movie house, and even though I've got a decent setup, it's not a thirty-foot screen or anything.

I feel like he might've used 4:3 to get some of those shots. He used symmetry a lot (like with the burnt-out hut and the double paths splitting to either side). Maybe he wanted it more square so the symmetry would pop?
