Shakespears Sister reference

In the episode where Alex meets her future husband, clearly visible amongst the records in his bedroom is a copy of 'Stay' by Shakespears Sister. At the time of watching I thought it was just a terrible error. However after listening to the song recently I realised it was almost certainly intentional. The lyrics really fit well with the overall plot of the show. For example;

You'd better hope and pray that you'll wake one day
In your own world

'Cause when you sleep at night they don't hear your cries
In your own world

This must've been intentional, the song fits too well for it to be a coincidence.

God is in the detail

Stay wasn't released until 1992 so this shouldn't have been in his record collection in the early eighties.

Seems god wasn't in the detail after all!

That's why i described it as a terrible error in my original post. It's just I think the writers may have put this little easter egg in intentionally, as the lyrics kind of fit the situation that Alex is in. It seems far too obvious for anyone involved in production to not have picked up on the fact that a single from 10 years into the 'future' is in the collection. Shakespears Sister weren't even formed until 1988.

My take on some of the little errors here & there regarding the wrong time for items was this isn't really a true 1981-1983, it's Gene's world with memories/etc of others that lived through the time, but, as memories go, they really aren't perfect, so items from the future may slip in here & there.

My take is that its an easter egg reference , in the video of the song a man is lying dead or in a coma and the song being sung is from his partner/sister/whatever begging him to come back,just like Alex lying in a coma/dead at the hospital and her daughter begging her to come back, the easter egg just adds a layer of symbolism to the bridge between life and death which eventually plays out in the last episode when they all realize why they are there.

Just my take on an easter egg.
