Worst Wide Release Opening Box Office Ever

According to Box Office Mojo, this made $135,000 in 750 theaters over the weekend, resulting in an abysmal $180 theater average.

This is the worst opening for a wide release movie ever.

I'd never even heard of this, never once seen an advertisement or anything, so I'm not surprised this flopped so badly. I'm surprised it got a wide release. I watched the trailer on YouTube, and it actually looks like a comedy, even though it's not. This looks horrible.

Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick!

If I didn't check BOM and/or IMDB frequently, I would have never ever heard of this film. Nobody I know said ANYTHING about this film, and I saw NO ads, not even online. I have no heck of an idea how Slowhand got it into 750 theaters, either. This should have been a 15-theater release at most.

well theres where we differ isnt it?

i heard about this film 8 months ago and i knew some of the cast in it, mackenzie rosman being one of them, and the film has an official website and i saw the trailer and thought it was awesome.

i saw the film too and it was surprisingly really good. the cinematography in it is amazing, the stories were great and very inspiring. i enjoyed it and it made me think hard about what other people go through and their courage. it moved me, and movies are meant to do that.

i admit i didnt see much about the film in promotion other than the website and mackenzie's site promoting it, thats how i knew about it and i enjoyed it! but i think decision to make it wide release was a last minute decision and maybe they should have had a proper premiere of it and given it more promotion.

Final numbers were even worse. It ended up with $96,000 and $120 per theater.

It made $120 per theatre in an entire weekend!
It's $40 dollar per day = 5 tickets per day circa.

I'm not American so I guess this movie isn't aimed at me but why is this film SO hated?

reply

I don't hate the film with a passion or anything, it's just the trailer was AWFUL and I'm sure the actual film is about the same.

Can you say jingoistic bullflop?

reply

I'm guesssing it's a money laundering scam. Companies get kick backs from supporting the film business and they get tax refunds for movies that include the american flag, possitive view of the armed forces and such... I'm probably wrong, but I can't think of any other reason why ANYBODY would make a movie like this.

The people who need to read your post have no idea what "jingoistic" means. And even I'm a little confused as to the make-up of "bullflop".

I'm with you, though. This film is corporatism personified. Lap it up, y'all.
