RFKJr. : Speech at Live Earth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Heku9oTLysg

Have you guys seen this? I'm posting it because I didn't see it mentioned elsewhere on the board. Quote from this speech:

"THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO IS TO GET INVOLVED IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS AND GET RID OF ALL THESE ROTTEN POLITICIANS THAT WE HAVE IN WASHINGTON D.C. WHO ARE NOTHING MORE THAN CORPORATE TOADIES(?) FOR COMPANIES LIKE EXXON AND SOUTHERN COMPANY................THIS IS TREASON AND WE NEED TO START TREATING THEM NOW AS TRAITORS." -----RFK Jr.

Wow. So is this what LIVE EARTH is REEEEEEEALLY all about? Political posturing? After all it is Al Gore's baby. Any thoughts?

reply

I was thinking about his speech over the last few days... And I thought it was a bit politically motivated - but so what?

Is anything about what he said wrong?

Perhaps Gore is using this Global Warming thing as means to springboard himself back into a run for President.

But I keep wondering - if he had not had the 2000 election stolen from him in Florida - perhaps this Global Warming thing would not be so critical now.

reply

OK so let me get this straight. Are you saying that if Al Gore had become president he would have "fixed" the Global Warming problem by now?

OR--are you saying that if Al Gore had become president he would not be that concerned about Global Warming?

OR--are you possibly implying that since the rightness and fairness of the universe has been violated by Al Gore NOT becoming president, that nature or some supreme power is causing a worldwide disaster as some kind of vengeful punishment? In that case, perhaps we should call it "Global Warning". Either do right by Al Gore or we will melt your icecaps!!!(I think that one does indeed belong on the Sci-Fi channel!)

reply

Can anyone tell me what Al Gore did about "global warming" when he was in office for 8 years? I'm not American and I truly don't know what he did when he was the second most powerful man in the world to combat this "catastrophe."

Anyone who can name any legislation or initiative, please post.

reply

UMMM how about none of the above.

I am saying that had Al Gore been nominated President we as a country wouldn't continue to spew CO2 emmissions in to the air unregulated.

And we certainly would have JOINED THE KYOTO TREATY like the rest of the dammed planet.

reply

Ok ajpublic. I'm sure he would have at least made some efforts toward these goals you have mentioned. As president he probably could have pushed some legislation through. Kind of goes along with trying to fix ( or maybe slow down?)global warming.

To MOONS OF JUPITER: Mr. Gore has been an advocate of environmental issues as long as I have known of him. You may be already familiar with his book and he recently won a major award for his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth". I'm not familiar with his actions as far as official policy changes, although there may be some. It is a good question though.
