Horrible film

The book might be great...I'll never know.
But the movie is horrible.
By the way what is the last decent film that Broderick has been in?
I think it has been quite a couple of decades...he gives overrated a bad name.

you're wrong, and your comment is mis-leading. it's slight, but charming and heartfelt.

reply

It's not a horrible film at all. It's a sweet, quiet movie with a quirky story.

As far as Broderick goes, aside from a role in a movie, the actors have very little to do with story, direction, etc. So if you feel he hasn't been in a lot of good movies (don't go by box office, watch the movie), maybe you should be looking at the quality of films being churned out in general.

You can say the same thing about Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, and many other actors. There isn't alot of quality movies being made and the ones that are, are not using Matthew. That's not his fault.

He's not wrong...it's his opinion. I too feel this movie was horrible. Not sweet, especially not the scene where the two characters kicked the crap out of each other for a baseball card.

reply

I enjoyed the movie up to a point, but I agree, near the end too much emphasis was placed on the baseball card and it veered into slapstick comedy. I thought it was a drama with occasional moments of humour till the ending took it completely off course. Perhaps if the director had a stronger vision...instead of sticking to one genre and going with it, he muddled the mix. If this were a meal, it would be potluck rather than gourmet.

I woulnd't call it horrible but it aimt great

Setting aside for a second your pointless comment on the film, Broderick has spent much of the time since 1995 on Broadway, including six years in The Producers, and picked up a couple of awards along the way. In that time, he's taken time out to make a few excellent films, i.e. Election and You Can Count on Me, and a couple not so great, including this.

"Overrated" is generally a subjective term, but I feel confident in saying that in this case, you have no idea what you're talking about.

It's terrible. Watching until the end was one of the worst decisions of my life. Hadn't seen Alda in a while, and thought it would be OK.
