This has always bothered me about people in tough financial spots..

These guys just got their lights cut off and they are purchasing expensive beers from a bar (around $3-$5 apiece), complaining about how they can't afford anything..

I know it's not that big of a deal but I know a lot of people that do stuff like this.. and it drives me crazy..

First of all, I'm talking about real life; not the "stupid comedy" film.

Second, It's not that serious, bro... chill. Did you seriously only post here to mock me..?! And you're calling me the "mega douche" with a "social issue"..?!?

reply

So calling someone a megadouce isn't being mean?

I'm unfamiliar with the beers they were drinking, But I know what you mean. When I was a bartender, there was this one woman who used to complain about her finances, and occasionally, her weight. Once I got bored and calculated how much money she spends on booze a year in the bar I worked at (I did that with many of the regular customers) and discovered she'd save at least 2 grand if she didn't drink so damn much, every day.

i hear ya. movies would have a much heavier feel to them and even some room for added humour if they would either address that they are drinking a far too expensive beer or if they were in a much dingier setting and would address the quality of the drinks generally associated with a dive.

Don't sweat that other fella responding to you saying, "its just a movie." what are movies derived from again?

have a nice day

That actually makes sense. (I mean, it doesn't make sense... but it explains the mentality) I never thought of it that way before..

What I think is amazing is how all the nerds and tight asses all found each other here on this thread.

Come on... "aRealCoolGuy"? Who the hell.. I mean you have to be.. Holy crap Isn't that all that really needs to be said? But I digress.

I just had to go look at some of your other posts which a couple of you make almost hourly it seems and a few of you sound exactly like a guy I know....

He's a 48 year old virgin (not kidding, he did try to lie about a chick once years ago but I've since talked to her and it was crap) that owns a house and finds bowling fills his time fine. Looks for any reason not to leave a tip, wears white kicks with jeans and a T shirt that always has a stupid joke on the front....

Yup, he's Mr. practical... Yup hasn't done one impulsive thing in his life... Nope, his sense of humour is non existent... Yup he'll probably get hit by a beer truck and die having lived a "full' life....(sarcasm, just in case, ya know?).

Oh, he's a realtor.... Yeah...

Being broke and buying beers isn't really my point, it's the point that you made it a point and the true passion in which you expressed your contempt for shooting your wad when it doesn't matter at that point. BTW, I think that's what Smith was kinda trying to express with that. Also, that's what some people do and they end up fine eventually, and they do it without stupid looking haircuts and having lifetime subscriptions to Playboy.

I know for a fact that the point I'm making here is blowing right by you and even explained, it wouldn't make any sense.... To you.

Let's just say maybe a couple of you should stick to more practical things rather than watching movies like this. But the title had "Porno" in it so that explains your being here.

Yeah, I guess that's my point....

So... you're calling us all losers for writing on a message board that you yourself not only use but in which you (incoherently) made an essay-long post to voice your criticism...

I see we're dealing with an intellectual here. Bienvenidos a los usuarios ignorados.

Poor people still manage to go out sometimes... gotta stay sane somehow. That bar looked pretty dumpy and they seemed to know the bartender so their beer likely cost what, 3 dollars at most?

What's more annoying are people who are broke but don't learn how to cook. My friend would eat at Taco Bell because his logic was, if he spends less than $5 on lunch or dinner, then he's saving money. It was embarrassing going to Taco Bell with him; he'd ask for free water and use the cup to steal soda from the fountain. He thought it was cool! I wanted to shake him and tell him, "Maintain some dignity man. You're 34 *beep* years old!"

$5 for one crappy meal. Please. I can spend a dollar more and make a tuna-tomato pasta that would feed 3 people.

As far as liquor, beer is a waste of money if you're broke. At the market, a seven dollar six-pack will give you a good buzz at the most. Go over to the Asian market instead and spend that $7 on a 300 ml bottle of Korean soju. Drink half at home, then go to the bar (no driving, pls), spend just a few bucks for one beer, nurse it, and bada-beepa-da-boppa-daboop...DUhrunkenness!

Why only drink half the soju, you ask? Well, if you pick up someone at the bar, guess what? Now you're playing with power.

I love the assumption that these people are only drinking 1-2 beers when going out. Does Seth Rogan look like the kinda guy who only drinks a single beer?

The girl is good enough looking to drink all night and never pay. But Seth's buying his brews!

I didn't assume they would drink only that many beers. Where did you get that from? I assumed that they would want to get drunk, but instead of buying a bunch of beers at a bar, gave suggestion on how one can go about getting more "bang for the buck" (half of a Soju and one beer, instead of a six-pack).

reply

I just love how you people label the OP as an idiot. I do believe this movie was pointing out that very thing. The guy bought a *beep* Fleshlight at $100 even though the power was about to be shut off. This is the way people really are and this movie addressed this. He even says it was a bad investment. At least 30 percent of Americans spend more than they actually make.

reply

K lets change the direction a little....Where can you go to sit and talk if say, your power were cut and it also happened to be damn cold for less money? You have to buy something to pretty much sit anywhere. Nobody said they were getting drunk. Plus, they were kinda down and it was the holidays... Can someone think of something cheaper that fits the bill? I think a bar and beer is where a lot of people would end up.

reply

@ DeltaHomicide, great advice. What is the recipe for your tuna-tomato pasta please? LOL sorry for turning this thread into pinterest!

I agree though, when broke-ass people spend badly, and they wonder why they stay poor. They just don't know. I learned the hard way, having grown up with not a lot, and I am very careful with my money.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten

reply

Well their electricity got cut off, so they probably didn't want to stay at home, and they may have had like $10-20 to spend but not had enough to pay the entire electric bill, because usually when you're that close to getting your power cut off they won't take any less than the entire amount you owe. I only say this cause I was in this predicament a couple years ago, had $50 that I could pay the electric bill, but they said that wouldn't keep it from getting disconnected. Of course I didn't go out to a bar.

House rules, Sammy. Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole.

reply

In reality it probably should have been cans of PBR or a pitcher of draft beer that they threw their last $5 on. But the movie had some pretty heavy product placement (notice how prominent Apple products like iPhones and ibooks are) and chances are that Heinikin was paying them for it.
