Reminds me of Tug and Tim McGraw

Just by mention, I heard that Tim didn't know Tug was his father until he was in high school. Then Tug contacted him and told him. Tim was upset, of course, but returned with a kind of negotiation that Tug pay for Tim's college tuition. Tug agreed, and they became closer after that. Perhaps I heard it wrong.

Tim actually found out Tug was his father when he was 11 and sometime later his mother took him a game in Houston to meet Tug and at that time Tug continued to deny he was Tim's father mainly because he was married and had two other kids. After that Tim stayed upset with Tug and when he was 18 he only got a partial scholarship to college and Tim and his mom contacted Tug to see if he could help play the rest of Tim's tuition and Tug finally admitted to being Tim's father. After that they did form a bond and Tim became close with Tug's sons. Tug did help finance some of Tim's early demos and was supportive of Tim's music career. I agree the plot of the movie does sound similar to Tug and Tim.
