Who was the old guy at the end?
I didn't get that.
shareHe was a sock puppet.
What old guy at the end? I finished the show a week or so ago, refresh my memory.
shareHe was just a random old guy she was going to play chess with, no tournament, no stress, just a nice care free game of chess without the world watching.
shareI just think it was a bunch of old chess guys and he might be the leader?
shareI think she had done everything she set out to do in the world of competition chess and just wanted to return to playing the game for fun, the way she and Mr. Shaibel enjoyed it. The old men in the park represent a love of the game.
shareSame conclusion for me. An excellent ending for an excellent series.
Reminded of my home country where we had the same chess setup in the main park or my small home town, always filled with chess enthusiasts ...
Also she told that Life Magazine reporter that chess can be “beautiful” so she was never just in it for the competition and glory.
shareShe didn't know him. He was just a lucky random chess enthusiast who she decided to play a game with. Just for the fun of it.
shareThat was a random fellow in Moscow who played street chess, but I seem to recall they showed her seeing him as Mr. Shaibel, and Bill Camp assumed the role for a moment. I may be wrong.
I think the greater significance was that she'd been grinding through chess for so long to beat the Russians that it had ceased to be fun, and now that her battle with the Russians was over, she was again playing for the love of the game.
Yep. You nailed it.
😎
He was just a random guy playing chess in a park.
