Do they say 'man' that often?

This movie would have been a lot better with less "man" in the script.

That done my head in.. We say man in Dublin.. but not for everything.. and you obviously wouldn't say it to a girl.. ruined it for me a little.

i'm from newcastle. i say man a lot. even to girls. it's just what you say, i did'nt realise it was a dublin thing too.

"this is not nam dude, this is bowling, there are rules."

'Man' didn't bother me so much as 'dude'. Do they really say dude all the time?

I'm from Dublin and have lived here since I was born and this REALLY annoyed me in the film because of the AMOUNT of times they said 'man' it was so obviously over used. Yeah, some people may say it but not nearly that much, it must've been a phrase or something the writer liked because its definitley not said that much. You may here it sometimes even just rarely but not that bloody much, made the film seem fake to me hearing it so much and then the way Jim Broadbent said 'awesome' at one point too... Nope not something someone of his age from Dublin would even THINK of saying unless hes lived in the states for half his life you may see that phrase SLIP out. Just seemed like they tried to kind of Americanize the characters or something to me, a bad job of it cause they're supposed to be proper Dubliners for *beep* sake. Thats the main thing that annoyed me about the film.

EDIT: And 'Dude' what the hell was goin on for all these words to be used so much?! Sorry I've just finished watching it for the first time after been meaning to watch it since its release so all this is fresh in my mind. Pity couldve been WAY better!

I thought I told you,
this world is not for you..

I'm glad I wasn't the only one affected by this. I left Dublin at 18, 37 years ago but go back a lot and all my friends and family are still there, so "man" really jarred with me.

I'm going to start another topic about this but basically the whole script struck me as written by someone "slumming" it - like what a middle class writer's wet dream of gangland Dublin must be like. Man.

Ha, yeah. But I thought that it was just a Cillian Murphy thing, to tell you the truth.
