a major incongrousness

WARNING -- SPOILERS!

I think there is a major incongrousness at the end of the movie. I understand that the main purpose of the "good ones" is to get revenge on the female cop. So they cheat her, to get her caught by the over-cruel mercenaries, that blame her for the theft of the diamonds. But this is a very bad idea. In fact, for their own security, their priority is not to be suspected by the mercenaries to have stolen the diamonds. As soon as the woman will be in the hands of the villains, that find the boat empty of diamonds, they will probably torture her to death, making her talk (why should she keep her mouth shut?). So the mercenaries will easily discover who actually have the diamonds, and the good ones will soon have a gang of blood-thirsty killers at their heels. The right strategy for the good guys would be to help the female cop to run away, or, at least, to leave her with a loaded gun, hoping she will be killed in the predictable shootout with the mercenaries.

I couldnĀ“t agree more. That goes to show how bad the movie is.

Yes I agree with you. They even made a point of saying her gun had blanks. I think the writer director tied himself in knots trying to extend the twist trail in the movie at the expense of common sense. The scenery and cast are pleasant to look at, but the narrative doesn't bear up to much scrutiny.

There is no incongruousness. The crew did get their revenge, as Molina will most likely be tortured, get killed, or at least be on the run forever.
As you said: "In fact, for their own security, their priority is not to be suspected by the mercenaries to have stolen the diamonds".
And they never will be, as the real mercenaries saw Molina steal the diamonds from them. That's the key.
So even if they catch up to her, they'll never believe that she was scammed, as she could make up any story to get her out of that predicament.

And the gun can't be loaded or the "boat driver" would've really been shot, while the mercenaries won't care that they got robbed with blanks.

Fun flick. Classic heist movie. Nothing more, nothing less.

agreed with alexarkin that they won't believe anyone else was involved at that point ..

HOWEVER, had she shot the mercenary man with the blanks the way she did the boat guy (a major possibility), the WHOLE PLAN would have unraveled, the mercenary would have captured her BEFORE she stole the diamonds, and then much more likely to believe her story because why would she have knowingly blanks in her gun?
