Proof the IMDB ratings are not racist?

I am always amazed at the forum topics which are inevitably started in every Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence or street dance movie which makes it onto the 'IMDB Bottom 100' list. There is sure to be someone who claims the movie is being ufairly judged because of the race of its actors.

Can we please take the current data points of Larry the Cable Guy and Paris Hilton in the bottom 10 into considereation from now on? I think the major majority of us are equal opportunity haters of terrible movies.

reply

There is a Paris Hilton movie in the bottom 10 right now, it might even be number one, and this movie, Delta Farce, and Health Inspector all made it to the bottom 100, so I think its being dealt pretty evenly.

reply

ALL of Paris Hilton's "movies" are in the bottom 100 as a matter of fact ;-)

reply

House of Wax isn't.

reply

I hope Repo the genetic opera isn't.

it's too bad all the people screaming racism all over other posts wont read this post. maybe they have but won't acknowledge it bc then they wouldn't have some thing to bitch about :]

Dang, I missed a post before it got deleted by admin... it was probably a good one, too!

Oh well.

reply

Yes sir! All those militant blacks should wander over here someday to understand that no one likes hillbillies either.

reply

I don't think racism should be brought up as a reason why Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence or street dance movie are in the bottom 100.
But if a movie is s*** then it deserves to be in the bottom 100 regardless of race.

reply

I strongly dislike Paris Hilton, but I think the Movie "The Hottie and the Nottie" doesnt deserve to be in the bottom 10...there are much worse out there...but people seems to base vote on if they like the main actors in a movie rather than the movie itself.

reply

I completely agree that many films on the bottom 100 are just there because of negative cults of personality around certain actors (/actresses? Or does actors work for both? And is Paris Hilton either?) and directors, and in truth the worst movies probably don't have a wide enough release to get on the list. I haven't subjected myself to 'Hottie and Nottie', but I made the mistake of renting Alone in the Dark (by the widely despised Uwe Boll) - a crapfest to be sure, but I've seen worse. And the problem with the 'extreme voting' is that people who dish out only 1/2 and 9/10 don't take into consideration that sometimes badly made trash can still be entertaining in a neo-MST3K fashion- perhaps a second rating should be added for an 'enjoyable cheese'factor.

IMDB ratings are valueless because so many people are tying to game the system by rating average movies a 10 or a 1. Just look at the curves. A normal bell curve would peak in the middle somewhere, not on the ends of the scale.

i know, imdb rating is so messed up. i agree most people votes 10 or 1

I would tend to agree with you, but I think ALL movies have to deal with that issue. Maybe not perfectly equally, but they all have people who rate just to try and alter the score. The huge numbers of voters make such attempts futile. Does anyone really think Alien vs Hunter is a 10 movie? No, lets be realistic. Does anyone really believe that The Shawshank Redemption is a 1? No, lets be realistic.

reply

Are you seriously calling it "Alien vs. Hunter"?

This post is old, so you probably won't respond but AVH: Alien vs. Hunter is a real film, a mockbuster of AVP: Alien vs. Predator. I assumed you thought the poster was calling AVP the wrong title. Consider it a blessing that you have not even heard of Alien vs. Hunter.

reply

Movie taste is purely subjective. You can't say that every living person would vote Shawshank an 8 or higher. I know of a few people who thought it was boring. You can't make general opinions look like facts.

I only wish the rating system would go to zero.

A score of 1 is way too high for a Larry the Cable Guy movie.

reply

this guy who says the 1 rating is too high also believes in ghosts, I rest my case.

reply

Lol. Starless believes in ghosts.

The reason most of these movies are low especially the black ones is because they are all the f u c king same!!! Its not racist when hollywood keeps making the same stereotypical black comedies over and over again..now they are doing with white rednecks and white dumb ass blondes who cant act..no the ratings are on point maybe hollywood will wake the *beep* up now

P.S. I am black by the way

reply

Plus alot of people seem to forget that the ratings on this site are all based on opinion. So if someone doesn't like a movie or can't relate to it, they rate it low. How is it racist if you can't relate to something?

Just a question.

Am I Insane? YES!!

reply

No, see, you got it all wrong.

IMDB has a big group of racists, and a big group of people who hate stupidity. Maybe some in both categories.

The bottom list is shared by the movies each group targets. The racists have a more prominent force though.

reply

Could it just be that Martin Lawrence is a talentless hack. I mean, Samuel L. Jackson and Morgan Freeman movies constantly make the Top 250. Perhaps Martin Lawrence just makes *beep* movies?

reply

I skipped most of the posts on this thread, because I only have two things to say about "Witless Protection".

1) I found it to be hilarious!

2) The people that don't find it funny most likely have NO sense of humor....

This proves nothing when most black movies score 5 star averages or less(and we all know who's doing the voting). So if you're going to defend the fanboys and hoity-toity rat finks come up with a stronger argument. There are some great black films on here that get low scores because lowlifes figure that every black movie is supposed to go along the lines of Baby Boy and Menace II Society. If that's not a racist rationalization of what constitutes as quality then I dont know what is. Look, your heart was in the right place but you cant defend the freaks on this website without looking insane. Come up with a better argument because what you just gave us wont fly under careful scrutiny.
