Location Observation

A friend of mine who had just seen the Avenging Angel emailed me because she thought she recognized the Western town at Paramount Ranch in it. She thought it looked like they had maybe added some new buildings to the Paramount Ranch town. I do Paramount Ranch historical and filmography work, but, hadn't heard anything about Avenging Angel doing any shooting there. But, since I'm not always informed of every single shoot, I checked it out. No wonder she thought the town was at Paramount Ranch! Even though it looks like they used the town set at Golden Oak Ranch, for some odd reason they slipped in an establishing shot of the Paramount Ranch town street that I recognized as being a shot from one of the other Hallmark Western movies that has shot at Paramount Ranch. (Love's Enduring Promise, I think.) The style, and especially the colors, of the Paramount Ranch buildings are different than the Golden Oak town, so it's odd that they slipped in that shot, as it doesn't really match the rest of the town in Avenging Angel! Anyway, I wanted to point that out so that other folks who know of Paramount Ranch from Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and some of the Love Comes Softly and other Hallmark movies that have used it aren't likewise fooled into thinking that Avenging Angel shot there. (Another upcoming RHI Western called Prairie Fever that Kevin Sorbo is in did use Paramount Ranch for some brief scenes.)

Thanks for sharing that interesting information-I thought there was something familiar about the town in Avenging Angel-now I know why. Dr.Quinn was one of my favorite shows for a lot of reasons, but mainly because of the chemistry between Jane Seymour & Joe Lando. Anyway,I was looking at some of the photos from Prairie Fever and I recognized the town set as being similar to that of Colorado Springs in Dr.Quinn.

You're welcome! I had the pleasure of hanging out on the Dr. Quinn set while that show was in production. Some very good times!

By the way, the town set on the Disney ranch where Avenging Angel was shot was the town used in Guns of Paradise with Lee Horsley some years ago. It has been changed up since then, and they used such tightly composed shots, so it is hard to recognize it from that. I believe that town was originally built for Roots II. It has no doubt changed since then, too!

Boy,you're bringing back some memories for me-Guns of Paradise was another favorite of mine because of Lee Horsley-he was in Matt Houston a few years before that. Anyway,I particularly remember an episode that feature Hugh O'Brian & Gene Barry as Wyatt Earp & Bat Masterson, respectively. It's nice that the Disney ranch was used again.
