But which networked ripped off the other's bad idea? I saw commercials for this before the one on Fox (maybe I watch Fox less and that's why, idk) but that doesn't mean they came up with it first.

Why though? Seriously...

reply

I first saw the commercials for the Fox show a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't heard of this NBC show until today.

I think that having Wayne Brady as the host of the Fox show will help it out more than Joey Fatone as the host of this one.

they are both gonna suck so it doesnt really matter

The neame of the other show is called "Don't Forget the Lyrics." I plan on watching both of the shows. I just hope that both shows don't air at the same time.

reply

I'm pretty sure fox ripped off this show. I saw commercials for the singing bee first. Also, the first fox commercial i saw didnt even have any contestants singing, while the singing bee did.

reply

I disagree Wayne Brady is a has been in fact he may even be a never was while Joey Fatone was recently popular on Dancing With The Stars and I think "The Singing Bee" is a better title more catchy while "Don't Forget the Lyrics" is just unoriginal and not thought out enough I had heard about Joey Fatone being selected as the host of TSB way before I even heard of DFTL

"America Idol" is nothing but a rip-off of "Star Search " with viewer voting and more people competing at the same time.

"Greed" was a rip-off of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire".However the other poster is right.Fox gets the little things right many of the times.Greed failed for the same reason that new show with Drew Carey will fail.Questions about what percentage of the audience ??? They always stink. Too Iffy.

"Skating With Celebrities" was a rip-off of "Dancing With The Stars".Only Fox didn't know Kristy Swanson would steal her partner from his pregnant wife and also have a baby by him. That bad publicity is too much even for Fox.

Personally, I don't care which on copied which one. It's like one idiot copying another and they both fail. Oh, I don't mean fail in the ratings. We've seen plenty of horrible shows that soared to the highest reaches of the ratings scale. I just mean fail to produce anything worthwhile!

PS, I'm not one of those people who hangs around on boards for shows they don't like bashing it and telling it's fans they are losers. Who knows, maybe this show (or its clone on the other network) will surprise me and turn out to be very entertaining. I just came here to see if anyone else had commented on the fact that there are virtually identical shows appearing at virtually the same time on two different networks. I would have been surprised if no one had!

I do not have attention deficit disor...Ooh, look at the bunny!

There is a picture of a Fox producer pinned up on the walls of the set of "The Singing Bee". It's there so that people know not to allow him on set because he's the one that snooped around and stole the idea.

Sometimes, when two networks have essentially the same show, it's difficult to determine who had the idea first. One network will announce the show, or have it revealed in some other way and the other network will work like crazy to copy the show and premier it before the original, in order to appear that they were first.

I'd like to think of myself as an impartial, philosophical opinionist.

NBC had announced this show well before FOX "borrowed" the concept. The Singing Bee was supposed premiere on the fall schedule, so FOX decided to fast-track a copycat for a summer release. NBC decided to counter program and move their show up to get the jump on FOX.

FOX can be very sleazy in the way the conduct themselves. FOX did the same thing with "The Next Great Champ", to detract from "The Contender". "The Contender" was a great show, but couldn't survive because "Next Great Champ" was such garbage that it ruined the concept.
