True Story?

I saw this movie and was a bit disturbed by it.
as others have said (in another post) the testicle scene is just too much

anyways, i did a web search to see in fact if this is based on a true story, and couldnt dig anything up - anyone know the real story? Obviously, i am certain the filmakers embelished on the real story, but i was just wondering if this truly did come from a real story.

reply

That's cause its not. Why do people believe this crap. I mean sure these sort of things can happen but this story just seemed so farfetched to me. And the characters were not very smart at all. God, am starting to dislike horror films in general now, its always the same cliche.

reply

How are they able to say it is based on actual events? I mean, isn't that opening them up to some kind of law suit or something?

Anyway, I did a brief search too and could not find anything. It appears this director did another movie (The 8th Plague - 2006) in which the setting was "Halcyon Springs". The setting for this film is Halcyon Ridge. Seems a little suspicious. Another tip off is the characters in this movie only have first names.

reply

Anyone can say any film is a true story, Remember FARGO anybody????

reply

yes, but fargo was loosely based on a couple of stories.

so very cherry

reply

actually i live in the area where most this film was filmed, and your way off, and i know this because my brothers girlfriend works with the actor who played bobby shaw, the diner they are at is on Prince WIlliam parkway, the Queens Gambit, and the camp scenes where shot at camp grounds in occoquan park off of 95 near woodbridge, i think maybe the house was in halcyon and that was it

reply

Yes. . .

I'm sure at one point in history kids went camping and a hick killed them, and maybe even filmed it. That's enough to say it's based on true events or inspired or whatever this one said.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

"I'm sure at one point in history kids went camping and a hick killed them, and maybe even filmed it. That's enough to say it's based on true events or inspired or whatever this one said."

That is probably the extent of the "truth" in this story.

reply

Or do you remember Blair Witch? At first it was also said that it was based on a true story but after they admited to be made up.

reply

The only reson they said it was a true story was to get people to watch it 90 percent of horror movies all based on nothing but fiction on tell someone trys to do what they seen in the movie and inmatate it. Dont get me wrong there is some horror that is based on true facts but this is not one of them they even said that return of the living dead was based on a true stoy but we dont see the dead rising now do we.

reply

theres no way this could be a true story , cause everyone was killed lol. who could tell it anyway????

reply

return of the living dead claimed to be based on a true story too...

reply

Thanks you bastard for spoiling the movie.

reply

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! then dont read these posts, dumba ss... lol.

here is the interview with the director.
EW: CARVER delivers the goods. End of story.

ED: It says that CARVER is based on a true story, is this really true, and if it is, could you guys tell us something about it?
FG: Ah, now here's an interesting bit of business, and I'm very glad you asked. This is one of the things I hear about most from people. A lot of them are kind of cranky about it. To those cranky people I say this: The operative phrase here is "Based on actual events" as opposed to "Based on a true story". These folks have scoured the internet looking for this 'Halcyon Ridge' place only to find that it is fictional. Well, obviously this is my imaginary town, not on any map. (I used it before, and it's the setting for the "Vampire Apocalypse" adaptation Richard Finney and I wrote based on the Derek Gunn novel.) And obviously the actual events are greatly embellished. The victims themselves are purely the work of fiction. There is no Bryan & Pete. This movie is based on actual events the same way that TCM and Psycho are based on actual events. And no, it's not based on Ed Gein like those two. Did some guy actually go into an outhouse, then get handcuffed while his nuts are crushed? Did someone then dress that guy up in different clothes to trick his friend into running him down with a truck to finish him off? Probably not. At least not to my knowledge. However, there is an actual case that the framework of my story is based on. The distributor does not want me to talk about the specific case just yet due to fuzzy legal issues. It pre-dates Gein though. So the short answer here is: Yes and No.

So basically, Its all *beep* the answer he gave was PR spin!!

I could hear someone's name in the street, go home and write a movie about any subject i liked, using the name i had heard in the street and then say that it is based on actual events!
All because i ACTUALLY heard the name, whether the story happened, whether any actions or consiquences took place or not.
I hate that! Like when people say "I worked with (INSERT CELEBRITY NAME HERE)" When the truth of the matter is they where hired by the celebrities company and never actually came into contact with that person!

I was going to watch it but after reading that rubbish that came out of the directors mouth i dont think i will bother!

reply

I don't think the directors can have the right to trick people, like I'm worried about the Strangers saying its based on a true story or something like that.

reply

It states on the box "Based on True Events". That doesn't mean that the whole movie is based on true events. It could just mean that one part of the movie was based on actual events. Take for example the bar scene. Maybe the director and friends went to a bar, and while people were singing karaoke, the guy got thrown up on by a girl and his friend got into a fight. There was a long line for the bathroom so he asked the bartender/owner if there is another restromm so he could clean up. He was told there is an old outhouse around back. He went back there and it was the most disgusting thing you ever saw. So, the guy cleaned it off as best as he could, and used it. End of true story. The rest of it, the killer, the trip, the way these people were killed. All from the imagination of the writer. However, that one part is true. So,that part is based on true events. Of course,it could be something else, but you get the idea.

It claims to be based on actual EVENTS buuuuuutttt....

it says at the end of the credits that "all characters, EVENTS and locations are fictitous. Any similarity is purely coincidental"

reply

it's based on a true story the same way texas chainsaw massacre was

"It's always funny until someone gets hurt, then it's just hilarious!"

reply

No, it's not. The director went out of his way to say it in fact was not based on Gein, who was the inspiration for Leatherface.

I find it funny it supposedly pre-dates Gein, yet there are fuzzy legal issues. AKA it's a bullcrap line to draw in viewers, and it is just another stranded youths killed by rednecks, unoriginal, contrived, and completely jacked story.

reply

The movie has nothing to do with real events they just say it does so that the people who made the movie can make more money off of it.

reply

I read that to say based on a true story there only has to be 3 major facts. So if you wanted to make a film on a house where someone is murdered you could almost claim any movie is a true story lol As long as ther is a house in your story and someone gets murdered its losely based on a million true life happenings ..If these people were never seen again they cant know what they said how they were tortured or any details in between becuase there is no evidence bodies etc..

Funniest line ever.."Who would *beep* up the walls"...
