I can't BELIEVE Michael Patrick King Directed/Wrote this garbage!

I have been a fan of the series from day one, seen every single episode- and it boggles me beyond belief that Michael Patrick King, who won an Emmy for directing "The Real Me" from season 4 and wrote amazing scripts for these four women, would then go on to create this fluffy garbage. HOW?

Most of the time, a movie based on a series is NOT written or directed by the originator, and it's safe to say the people didn't know the characters like the author. Not this time. King not only wrote and directed a lot of the shows, he was an executive producer! Why did he mess up so much with the films (especially the second one). I'll bullet point:

* The women seem WAY TOO Glamourous. I understand people have to grow and find success, but the moment Miranda, Carrie, Charlotte and Samantha are on screen, I felt like I was watching caricature versions of their personalities, doused in ridiculously over-expensive costumes and jewelry. The whole movie feels like a big Gucci commercial. Where's the originality? Where's the edge that the show had?

* I watched the commentary that King even made for the film, and he's writing a love letter for this mediocre mess, acting as if his lines of dialogue are revolutionary and never before seen (eg "I think Jennifer Hudson's character was so real, being a sister from St Louis") Really? Cut me a break.

* Having Samantha dump Smith because she's gained a measly 10 pounds and is horny for her next door neighbor? She's 50 years old. That's not cute anymore. Smith went through Cancer with her, and waited by an elevator while she was screwing her brains out with Richard, AND flew from Canada back to the states just to tell her "I love you". And then the movie comes, and King thinks "no lets make her single again, for the fans!"

Speaking of THE FANS, I keep hearing people say "Well he wrote it for the fans", and "They made the movie for what the fans wanted." What fans are these? 13 year-old Barbie dolls that live in Palm Beach? They're certainly not the fans I remember, the enjoyed the eccentric spontaneity of the dialogue, the independence the women had about being single and not needing men in their lives. The movie feels too optimistic and preachy. If they were concerned that it would be too real to make money- I doubt seriously that adding some volume and wit to the story would have caused the movie to lose dollars at the box office.

So if anyone has ANY insight as to why Michael Patrick King totally RUINED the series with this, refuses to admit the movie has any flaws (listen to his commentary) and basically makes himself look like a big sell out for product placement, I would love to hear the theories. So far no one I have mentioned this to can actually answer.

Your comment is too deuchey to reply to, however.... The movie was loved and was a HUGE success. Im sorry you didnt get it, but most of us did and loved it. Part 2 was terrible though.

I agree with you. I am rewatching it as I type right now and all I can think is they tried to jam everything the series was about in 2 and a half hours, but without the witty dialogue. It feels very forced at times, and takes itself too seriously. It's actually kind of lame.
