Why would Big take Carrie on a honeymoon to Mexico? You would think they would have gone somewhere like Rome or Paris not south of the border.

Carrie is the one who booked the honeymoon as a surprise to Big. She was already in Paris, he met his 2nd wife in Paris...not really good memories in Paris.

It was a five-star resort in a tropical location. Why not? And as the other commenter said, it was a surprise from Carrie, not Big.
