Was Miranda really to blame for Big freaking out?

Even the short summary at the top of the IMDb page basically says Miranda inadvertently led Big to do what he did. And in the movie, she blamed herself, and Carrie upon finding out about her comment blamed her as well. But really, was it really her comment that caused Big to do what he did? I'm inclined to think he probably would have done it anyway, given his history.

No way. The whole idea is ridiculous. You said it - he was bound to flake out anyway. It kind of irked me that Carrie was so hostile about it and that it was made out to be such a big deal anyway. Miranda never needed to mention it. If Big is such a big baby... agh, I never was crazy about him anyway.

Hell no !!! That would just be something that losers like Carrie would grasp onto because they can't face the facts that the guy that they obsessing about , realy doesn't care much about you

Big, true to his nickname, was a big boy. No one was going to change his mind about it if it wasn't already headed in that direction anyway.

reply

No, she certainly wasn't. I can understand Carrie being upset that Miranda would say something like that to Big the night before his wedding, but to actually say "you ruined my marriage" is ridiculous and implies that Big has no control over his own actions.

reply

NOT IN THE LEAST. the comment was so trivial, the movie seemed dumb for making that a big running plot. I assume Carrie calmed down and realized how ridiculous she was to put the blame on Miranda too.. she just needed a scapegoat by that point.

reply

Oh please Carrie carried on and on and was so bitter about Big, I was screaming GEt OVER IT!! Put on your big girl pants and quit whining JEEZ

I do blame Miranda. She planted it in his mind and had him thinking. Here's Big with 2 failed marriages and about to marry again.
Then the phone call the night before the wedding he was having second thoughts. And why was he having thoughts cause Miranda opened his mind.
I would have beat the crap out of him with my bouquet too after standing me up like that.
It's understandable to be pissed at Miranda for so long but then eventually make up.
Once the girls leave the city to go to Mexico I stop the DVD lol

Nope. Not at all. Big already had worries about the wedding/marriage (which is fairly understandable after two divorces and the fact that he and Carrie have had their ups and downs) and it was Carrie making the wedding bigger and bigger that spooked him. He was already scared and having his doubts. Miranda saying that to him didn't help but if he'd been adamant and confident that he wanted to marry Carrie, then her comment wouldn't have stopped him from doing that. He would've recognised that it was just the words of a hurt woman who was dealing with her own stuff. He already had concerns and that just convinced him even more, but it's not Miranda's fault and she shouldn't have been blamed for it as much as she was. Charlotte even said to her that it wasn't her fault, Big was already weird about marriage, and he was. To be honest, the situation between Miranda and Steve probably made Big think about the fact that he cheated on his last 2 wives (one of which with Carrie) and now he's seeing it from the perspective of the woman who's been hurt by those actions and it probably made him more concerned that he was going to mess up yet another marriage.

reply

No she wasn't. It was wrong for Miranda to say something like that to him but he ran away by himself. She didn't drive him to do it.
