Is Steve's cheating justified?

I was talking about this with a friend, and she was acting like it's OK that he cheated because his wife didn't have sex with him for six months and when she finally did, she wanted to "just get this over with." But I don't agree - I don't think he's a bad guy, as he made a mistake that he instantly felt terrible about and told her right away, but I don't think there is ever any excuse for cheating. If your partner isn't satisfying you sexually, you talk to them. Not have sex with someone else.

What does everyone else think?

I agree shrilltrills. There is never an excuse for cheating. Miranda shouldn't have said what she said, and Steve had a right to be annoyed but you are right, its about talking about it rather than cheating.

"What you don't like rice? Tell me Michael, how can a billion Chinese people be wrong?"

It's never ok. If it's truly a problem for him then he needs to address it with his wife before jumping the gun and seeking to pleasure himself outside the confines of marriage.

There's never any justification for cheating.

Your friend is probably the type who would sleep with a married man and justify it by blaming the wife. Cheating is never justified. There are vows that are made and forsaking all others is one of them.

reply

Though, there is no excuse for cheating I can kinda see why he did. He was in a sexless marriage with a woman constantly picking fights with him. A marriage takes work from both people involved. If he tried to talk to her about it, she'd snap at him. They definitely should have tried marriage counseling. But I still feel for him.

reply

Agreed. He shouldn't have done what he did. But I did feel sorry for him. Miranda wasn't being a good wife.

reply

I think with Miranda's crazy work schedule, it took away from their sex life.

reply

Agree. Watching this movie for the first time in 5+ years and I’m horrified that all of Miranda’s friends are telling her she’s being ridiculous and needs to forgive her lying, cheating husband. Wtf.
