I didn't see Shirley or anyone else rejoice when her son

was hit with that drink and was crying and holding his ear.
In fact she kept telling him how very sorry she was that it happened. Why? Shouldn't she rejoice like she does when people around the world die tragic deaths? Obviously it was God's punishment for some kind of imaginary crime the kid did. She should rejoice over God's justice.

reply

Agreed. As inappropriate it would be, and unfair to the brainwashed child, I kind of wish the guy would have brought that up. It's sad that that kid will probably keep this alive when he gets older. However, there is hope one of the children was disowned, and now lives a normal life. She wasn't in this movie I don't think though.

They only rejoice when unfortunate things happen to sinners who are going to, um, heck. (Will the proper name for the hot place down below be censored by IMDB?) Since her son is a true believer, they do not celebrate pain and suffering for him.

reply

I don't buy that. According to their own reasoning EVERYTHING bad that happens to anyone is the will of God and God's punishment. So when her son is assaulted that is GOD'S WILL and God's will is always right and worthy of celebrating and rejoicing over, according to them.

I think the truthful answer is that they are hypocrites that laugh at the pain and suffering at others but they don't like it when they're the ones suffering.

reply

Yup, I could be wrong. God knows that's happened before. Your suggestion could just as easily be right.

reply

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off that strong, I just sort of felt like you were trying to defend them.

reply

No no no! Never never never would I defend that group of wing nuts. I just thought that was how they thought about that certain situation.

reply

And they supposedly believe that the children suffer because their own parents raised them for the devil, so her little nephew (not son) got hit in the head with that bottle and according to their OWN twisted logic, it should have been the direct fault of his parents, yet they play the victim and blame the driver who threw the bottle at him and ask who would do such a thing? MY GOD, who would picket at the funeral of dead soldiers!!!??

reply

I wish those people who threw the drink had hit Shirley in the face.
Those kids didn't even know why they were there or what the signs meant.

reply

That's one scene that really got me. Shirley was all wanting to know who would do that to a child. I was asking myself who in their right mind would not only teach a kid to hate but take them out to make them targets like that? Parents are supposed to protect their kids, and here they are putting them out in front of people that they're upsetting and wondering why their kids are getting hurt.

reply

The "Who would do that to a child" line was what got me too. And then she continues to brainwash her kids and terrorise everyone else.
It really shows her warped way of thinking. Insane.

Shirley didn't even rejoice when people got booted out of her church; she actually cares about some people in her midst.

reply

Not only that. She had the hypocritical audacity to say "who would want to hurt a little boy like that?" or something along those lines. Meanwhile she's picketing at dead soldiers funerals.
