Maybe you ought to read your bible ones in a while. what you saw them doing, is exactly... and i mean exactly what the bible teaches. At least, they are only hating... God demands that homosexuals be put to death.

Do i believe in God? Yes... I believe in Me.

reply

Don't be such an idiot. If you read The Bible you will find that there are many, many contradictions. There might be passages where God says homosexuals be put to death etc... or people will go to hell for sinning. But The Bible also says that God forgives all sins. So in other words it makes no sense! Sin but don't worry, you'll still be allowed into Heaven. What kind of guidelines are these?

Realistically, I think this proves that The Bible was written by a vast amount of different people over a long period of time. Taking it literally and living according to every single word written is (1) impossible and (2) impractical. Even the West Borough Baptists don't adhere to every single word. They pick and choose as they see fit. The worst part is that they pick and choose from the most outrageous books of The Old Testament. Revelations should not be taken literally - it is utter nonsense!

Dont call him an idiot marsellus7... that guy is obviously an athiest. They are truelly, they most sincere christians that exist today.

I will disagree with you on that one... the west borough baptist church adhere to every single word in the bible, unlike most christians today. If the old testament was not part of the package... why is it still there to be read, hmm? The westborough baptists church are the most sincere of all christians we have today...

To be holy, you must adhere to every single law written in the bible... including the decapitation of blasphemers... (which is common in islamic countries), killing of gay people and buying of slaves as written in the bible in genesis. There are countless of atrocities written in the bible that i can't disclose of here... but it all boils down to one simple and most important point. The Bible is just a book, period.

reply

They cannot be adhering to every single word in The Bible as this is impossible. The Bible is full of many contradictions. It states 'Fags' should be put to death but then it also says 'all men are created equal'. This is just one example but it proves that The Westborough Baptists do pick and choose. They choose to adhere to the homophobic undertones in The Bible and that's it. To be honest, all they seem to care about is whether or not a person is gay. It all seems a little trivial when in today's society with all our wars, poverty and genocide all they seem to care about it a person's sexual orientation.

That seems a bit of an odd thing to say.

The bible also says not to presume to judge others. The two fundamental commandments of Christ are both about love. There's a lot that the Westboro Church ignores in order to focus on a very small amount of lines that are usually interpreted to be about homosexuality.

I'm not Christian but I think it's very odd to suggest that the Westboro Church are behaving biblically.

reply

First of all, God does not mention anything about gays being put to death, those are the villains of the bible itself that says that. It's the Dark/Demon God that mentions it and not the good God. Like anime, videogames and movies, there are moral parts(which are done by the good guys) and there are immoral parts(which are done by villains). To be moral or holy, you do what the good guys do and not the bad guys. The stuff involving Levticus 18:22 and 20:13 are done by the bad guys, the people you shouldn't follow.

It's like in a videogame. Would you rather be like the hero, who saves the world or a person he/she loves and do all the good things? Or would you want to be like the final boss, who is nothing but a mass murderering character that wishes to rule the world? I'd rather be like the hero.

Oh yeah, and as for the Lake of Fire. Jesus spoke of demons(monsters, dragons, wvyrns and so on) when he said he would return. Ever heard of the 2nd coming? Everyone says that he is to take out Satan and his army of demons when that happens, there was nothing said about non-christians.

reply

OP is right. christianity is definitely not about hate. it's about fear.

I am a Christian, but I do not consider the Bible to be a 'the Word of God' or a book of rules. I consider it to be what it is: A history of the Christian and Jewish faith; a compilation of things written down by many different people throughout the ages, some of whom had differing opinions. It is actually impossible to follow/believe everything the Bible says. That is why people have to study it in their own way, and pick and choose what they think is the most logical bits of the book. Some people have accused Christians, saying 'You cant pick and choose what the Bible says, if it says that homosexuals are bad, then true Christians should hate them' but the fact is that it is impossible to follow the entire Bible. This cult has done just that: picked, and chosen. Now I am in no way defending these people, to me they have seemed to picked and chosen from all the wrong places. For example, they have seemed to skip over perhaps the most famous phrase from the bible "Love thy neighbour". Anyhoo, thats just my two cents

There's plenty for the both of us, may the best dwarf win

"I do not consider the Bible to be a 'the Word of God' or a book of rules."

That is exactly how I view the Bible. With all of the translations, rewrites, etc. since it was originally written, we cannot say that it is the original word of God. And with all of those rewrites and translations done by people, how do we know that they didn't change or add things to their own views?

reply

Way to express ignorance, Xrenegade.

"hate is not what christianity is about"

"its the sins that we commit that he hates no us human beings"

Grammar mistakes aside, these are contradictory statements. First statement, there is no hate; second statment, there is.

I am surprised that you don't capitalize christian and jesus. Can't you go to hell for that or something?

reply

Christianity IS about hate.

God hates most people and creates them in order to send them to Hell.

"God hates all the workers of iniquity." (HINT: He hates the people themselves, not just the acts.)

Jesus himself called non-Christians (that's the vast majority of people) pigs, dogs, wolves, children of the devil, generation of vipers, mass of perdition, etc., and promised to return one day to burn them all alive by throwing them in the Lake of Fire.

99% of so-called Christians have never read the Bible, have no idea what it actually says, and are not true Christians.

reply

Okay then. Tell me (according to The Bible) what a woman should do when she is on her period? You'll find the passage I'm referring to in the book of Revelations. Read it and tell me that it is not seriously messed up. By that rationale, one should not take everything that The Bible says literally.

reply

Marsellus makes a good point. A lot of what the Bible says is not practical or relevant today, but unfortunately can be taken literally instead of interpreted. And yeah it was written by different people, who may have possibly contributed their opinions. But I don't know.
These people hang on to every (negative) statement in there, to make their points, but don't have much proof that it is (all) the word of God anyway - so of course they can believe in it, but shouldn't impose their extreme beliefs on others in such a vicious way.

If you've got it, flog it

reply

Exactly. It does not bother me what another person believes or worships as long as it does not interfere with another person. Placing your beliefs on someone else is wrong especially when it is done in such outlandish ways as lobbying with placards that read fag this and fag that. The Westborough Baptists are complete idiots and stand for everything that The Bible is against. Their idea of do what we do or else stinks of facism.

On a side note, why are they so obsessed with homosexuality? Why is everything and everyone 'a fag'...? Shouldn't they campaign about things that matter such as poverty or war or genocide?

reply

Ah but you're not seeing the bigger picture. It's much easier to get attention when you lobby against something that is so current and so controversial. And that's all this particularly heinous breed of idiot wants; attention. For the simple fact that they are foolish enough to believe that if enough people hear their severely retarded views, they'll get picked up by at least some of them. Sadly, it probably works, too.

reply

Who cares what Christianity is about? It's all based on lies! Let's stop acting like cavemen and realize that god is nothing but the adult's imaginary friend!

Charlie Manson won't burn in hell. The Pope won't go to heaven. They'll both end up 6 feet underground. They'll still exist in mind and memory, but not in the physical or "spiritual" (HA!) world. The reality: All humans have the burden of one day dying. No afterlife, no time to analyze, no reward or punishment, only death. We all have to make our own meaning in life; mine is to leave my mark on this planet, so I can live on after death in the only way possible. There are no second chances, hopefully I'll make it through my life and influence many to come. Thus, becoming god.

Christians eat babies, you do not eat babies therefore you are not a christian, but you are still delusional because you are a christian.

It makes perfect sense.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

I have seen this happen. There was a programme on here in the UK called Jeremy Kyle where he had Christians and 'that crazy family' on together. The normal Christians and audience members were condemning the crazy people for all the things you stated above. It didn't seem to do any good though - the crazy people still stood their ground.

Although, understandably, it would take more than Jeremy Kyle slagging me off to make me change my beliefs!

In addition, a great deal of Muslim-extremist clerics publicly vilify Christianity in our streets. There was one guy (I forget his name but he had a hook for a hand and a missing eye - hard to miss really!) who was deported soon after our London tube bombings because he refused to stop his rants. Plus, the fact that he took pleasure in all those deaths kind of sealed his ticket out of here!

It's a shame really as I hear he had just signed a contract with one of the countries top modelling agencies!

If God loves me, then why does he want to send me to hell?

reply

BINGO!

Next time you hear somebody say, God loves everybody, ask them:

Does he love the people in Hell?

reply

I'm a Christian, and one who is decently educated in the history and traditions of the Christian Faith. I'm not an exclusivistic person; if you honestly cannot be Christian, or are perfectly happy in another faith, then I, at least, will not condemn you, also as I hope you would not condemn me for my own.

First, the issue of the Bible must be addressed. The Bible DOES contain flaws, contradictions, biases, historical inaccuracies, etc. And a good example of that is in the six-hundred and something Mosaic laws of the Torah (the first five books of the Hebrew Bible/OT). As a Christian, I see those laws (and the Bible as a whole) not as a perfect and inerrant reflection of God's will but a product of the historical memory and spiritual testimony of its writers and its writers' communities.

Second, there's Christian history, including the Christianity of today. As some of you have pointed out, there have been, and still are, many self-described Christians that are hateful, bigoted, self-righteousness blow-hards, and then there are Christians who stick more to the ideals of love, and they've done wonderful things. It's not all black and white and leaning only to one or the other. This division is even found in the Bible, as most Bible scholars will state. There are verses in the Bible that reflect both the hate-based and the love-based strains of Christian thought. Christianity is NOT a religion of hatred, in and of itself, and it often fails to meet the standards of a religion of love. To generalize will benefit no one. Christianity is not black or white, but somewhere in the vast spectrum of gray that lies in between.

What it comes down to is personal choice and practice. In terms of personal choice: People who are typically loving will focus more on the love-based verses, and people who are typically hateful will focus on the more hate-based choices. In terms of practice: Look at the individual acts of each person, rather than blanketing a whole religion under the lunacies of its most extreme and widely discredited wing.

I'm Christian because it fits me, and it feels like home, and I for one aspire more to the ideals of Jesus, which are overwhelmingly ones of the afore-mentioned qualities of love, compassion, forgiveness, etc. If you are not a Christian, or you are viruntly anti-Christian, as is trendy of late, then there is little I can do except state with rock-solid conviction that people like Fred Phelps do no represent me or the Christianity I know and love, and try to show by my actions that that's no lie. Things are not as simple as we often make them out to be.
